We don't even begin to post all the spammers who sign up here but it's interesting sometimes how many will join within a matter of minutes. I just banned gjeroqfpxn, jlpfuxsmbnjr, mdsxdxnwzd, and quest3004. These bastards are utterly relentless. Fortunately, few actually get through, and thanks to all of you reporting those aberrations who do get past the gates the poop is quickly cleaned up. I think that this forum has less spam showing up that any of the dozens of (non-baiting) forums I subscribe to.

Wow, the spammers have been busy in the past day. We've zapped liilfxqr, hzcsxhmy, izvmunkq, rebnerjr, umdovdjgxcoh, mdkamal, bsmbhuoidb, aexoxylzns, efoqqitpdj, svhakbtucfse, and ocjqtpgeam in the past several hours. They are relentless.

I don't mean to pat ourselves on the back, but all of the mods are diligent about trying to catch spammers before they can defile the board. On those occasions where one slips through, members are great about reporting them so we can quickly clean things up. Sometimes it's easy -- the majority of spammers have IPs from spam hotbeds, and a quick Google search will typically bring up all the evidence we may need to zap them before they even have a chance to post. But some manage to use proxies that aren't already on our ban list. Just the other day someone got through after signing up with a reasonable username (not the vowel-challenged types we have been mocking in this thread) and a New Hampshire IP. Nothing that would set off alarms. Until he crapped over the board. Mad

I'm on several forums (not as a mod) where spam often sits for days before a mod finally checks in and does housecleaning. I don't think there are many forums which are quite as pro-active as we are. Personally, I take pride in that. But what I particularly enjoy is catching a spammer in mid-post. It doesn't happen often, but it's a treat to click the ban button while the activity chart shows him "creating a post". Laughing

You can just imagine how frustrating that must be for them.

Juan (and other mods & admins) You ALL do a great job keeping the board clean and spammer free. It is, IMHO, the best community on the 'net and it's the mod & admins who help make it that way.
