My current character's name is Kerry Thomas.... and in one of my baits the scammer asked me to send the money via Western Union to Imafidon Thomas. It got me wondering whether this is a coincidence, or if they intentionally made the receiver's last name "Thomas". I have never actually used Western Union, so I am not familiar with how strict they are about checking the names of the receiver. Would the scammer possibly make the receiver's name be the same last name in order to elude suspicion from a Western Union agent who might otherwise warn a victim about sending money to Nigeria? |

Probably a coincidence.
I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the link Ag pointed to is a spellcaster. |

Tsnerd,
Interesting. I haven't baited in a few years, but have just gotten back into it. Back when I was doing it before I had never heard of spellcasters. I have read a little about them now and have heard how they are considered unbaitable in 419eater community. While I don't know that I personally agree with that, I do respect that that's the stance of this community. I actually received a spellcaster email in my catcher account this morning and chose not to touch it based on what the experts here felt about them.
As I ramble on, I wanted to point out that this bait that I posted about was actually not a spellcaster scam. So assuming it is the same scammer or group of scammers, it's interesting to note that they must be using different formats. |

No worries, Bait, just an observation/reminder for those following along. |

I would suggest "Imafidon" is the surname/family name and "Thomas" would be the first name. I have often found lads get these confused. |
