Yes! the earliest free download I ever saw was recorded on audio tape from a TV broadcast of Tomorrow's World to a regular tape recorder via a line cable. It didn't work, as it goes.

I was quite smug about the fact that my parents were early adopters of 5.25" disk drives.

Anyone remember the Apple 2 Europlus? It was surprisingly useful for something with 64k of memory.

My mentee, this morning, reminded me of childhood memories. At 12:30 every afternoon, Paul Harvey would come on. I miss that voice.

bware- I had a cabbage patch kid. (Chelsea Elsie) I also had a Furskin bear. When I woke up in the morning and made my bed, I had no less than 15-20 dolls or stuffed animals on my bed.

I remember when people we not expected to readily available at all times. People weren't tethered to their phones or a computer. If you wanted to know someone in a far away country, you found a pen pal and sent a hand written letter to them. That was a amazing. I remember when kitchens didn't have microwaves, dishwashers and a food processor was a luxury item. I remember when you had to get up off the couch to turn the channel on the TV. I swore my parents only had me so they didn't have to get up and change the channel. I remember when kids could go outside to play and parents not worry about them being abducted. You just had to come home when the streetlights came on. Halloween was door to door and everyone knew each of the kids. Neighbors knew neighbors and people were helpful to each other. Hitchhiking wasn't dangerous. I remember if you had a flat tire or car trouble, people stopped to help out.

Most of all, I remember a chocolate bar was only 10 cents.

Several years ago, when my oldest niece was around 10 and care bears had come back in style yet again, my sister dug out her original care bears from when she was around 12 (they came out in '81.)

My niece was so excited, she ran around telling everyone that she had mom's "antique" care bears!

TV Dinners in tin trays - my mother would re-use them and freeze her own.

Sewing my own clothes because it was cheaper than buying store-bought.

Popcorn in tin trays with handles (wait... I think you can still buy those!)

TV when "remote control" was little brother changing the dial for me.

Wonderful World of Disney, Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, Lawrence Welk (ah-one and ah-two), Laugh-in

... heck, just playing outdoors in the sunshine with neighborhood kids and no cell phones or other electronic devices at all.
