Hi All,
1st time on & am looking for inf on a scam I recieved - don't know about 'baiting'...
The scam is about 2 boxes of $ in customs here in the US and the need for certificates (that should cost me)...
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm an ol fart & 2 finger keyboarder with bad spelling and not very puter literate.
Come back please...

Welcome to Eater! If you'd like help with baiting him, could you post the script in Hints and Tips, so that the lad can't find you? |

Hi, cromedome. What you are describing sounds like a very common advance fee fraud: they claim you will get lots of money for paying them a little for something like certificates. There are no boxes being held by the customs and there is likely even no one in the United States. It's just all about getting you pay them for nothing. Though scammers come in many varieties, so based on your brief description I am just describing what would be the most common scheme. There might actually be someone in the United States who you would be supposed to meet later during the scam. Heck, there might even be boxes with "money" that has been conveniently dyed black and you'd need to pay to have it restored. The only thing we can be 100 % sure of is that there is no fortune waiting for you at any point.
Scam Warners (http://www.scamwarners.com/) might be able to help you further with this. |

That actually sounds like the very character a lot of us try to play, because scammers label that stereotype as easy prey.
With a bit of guidance from a mentor here, you should do just fine if you want to try baiting |

Mornen Basinga,
I'm quite literal & honest and mind games has not ben my style - so guidence is in order - that does not meane that my brain dosn't work.
'Know thyself' & all that...
In the past I've let the Q&A goso fare that there 'requirements' become so unreale that it's obious that it's a scam. I usuealy end it by replying with a 'you require - I require' scenario like 'I'll meat you at the aiport and pay your expences - after I get the $ & they go away...

Script is any boilerplate messages that the lad sends and has pre-written. The first email is always script. |

Sometimes just dropping them without sending them any ultimatum is good too. You will sometimes get several E-mails over the next few days or even weeks. They say one of the most perfect ends to a bait is where the Lad is left wondering what went wrong. I end a lot of the baits I do on the Refugee scammers like this and many times I will get an E-mail a month later of what I call their "Paraguay" script. (Got out of the camp and are in Paraguay and want to send you a check). |

The Surplus section http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18 of this forum is full of the "script" messages that others have received but had no time to actually bait them. It will also give you a glimpse of the posting method for these.
Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you took the time to check out the real story with your trunk box boys. |

I apologise if you took my post to be a question of your intelligence. That wasn't what I meant.
There are lots of people that have difficulty using computers or understanding how they work, but that doesn't at all mean they're stupid.
We sometimes play as computer illiterate in our scam-baits because the scammers think people with less experience of computers and the internet are less likely to realise they're being scammed in these emails, also it helps us when the scammers demand we send them things like our IDs or filled in forms (example, we don't know how to use the scanner, how to add attachments to our mails etc... it's can be funny asking the scammer to tell us how to do these things, plus it wastes his time)... |

I have to admit I only type with two fingers myself. I find it helpful to copy & save many of my responses to a word document to save myself time. This is especially true in my baits of the "Dakar Darlings". |
