When 12 year old boys work out how to stand on motorway bridges and drive the modern fly by wire cars by remote control, we're screwed.

It wont affect my old dinosaur car, which doesn't even have power steering, but I'll still get hit by the wayward modern stuff.

BBC News must have had better news to run during the last three years. This entire story is a complete crock of muffler bearings. There's a reason that these two researchers want people to think that the sky is falling. They get money from the Center for Automotive Embedded Systems Security. They want a lock on something that does not need to be locked up. Its like the Center for Enhanced Controls on Lifts (Elevators) reporting that pushing the emergency stop will cause an elevator to stop between floors.

During the last three years the OBDII interface units and software have changed dramatically. I use a wireless version of the hardware on my cars and realized a long time ago that it is possible to wreck the system. I have had screens pop up telling me that if I continue on to the next step I could cause irreparable damage. It sounds scarey but a person would need access to the port under the steering wheel.

I think its like having access to the back of a Rolex watch with a screwdriver; anyone can screw it up.

No. It was posted on that date.

Items in the Most Popular panel aren't necessarily up-to-date.
For example: today's panel has a story from last month regarding the breakup between Lewis Hamilton and his girlfriend.
The reason it's popular now is because people are reading about his Grand Prix win in Hungary and then linking off to that page.

You will probably find that the story you've posted was popular because people were linking from a current one.
