I saw a TV programme where they put trackers into old TV's which were then taken down the local UK tip for disposal.

One ended up mended and on sale in a suburb of Lagos, the rest had a more dangerous fate, being stripped for their heavy metals on various dumps around West Africa.

Electrical stuff tends to defy gravity and gravitate towards my attic more because it becomes obsolete than it stops working. I have a monitor up there that weighs the same as a small car, now replaced by a large flat screen one.
