Is there any cheap/free way of getting a realistic looking web site for scam baiting? So I can make my bogus institutions look real?

I'd like one for a radio club, but then I might want to change the name of the radio club for another scam bait. So buying a domain for each is out of the question, and also a bit risky.

I do have a hosting package and can add domains to that, but it presents me two problems.

1) How do I hide my identity of the owner of the domain? In theory this can be done for free via Offcom in the UK for .co.uk domains, and .org domains can have details withheld, although that costs money. But I can't be 100% sure this will not break down.

2) Conceivably a scammer might be able to trace another domain to that IP address, and that domain has my name on it. Since any domain I ad would have the same IP address as real domains I own.

I thought of getting a domain that is quite generic like "radioclubs.org", under which I could host any number of radio related web sites. But I'm still a bit bothered by security.

I do have web space on 419eater, but it would be a bit pointless to point a scammer at such a web site, as even the most stupid of them would probably realize it is a scam bait.

I write my own HTML from a simple text editor (vi), so I don't need any site that offers a GUI to interface to.

there are plenty of free hosting companies like Webs, Weebly and 000Webhost. Many offer a GUI that lets you build a very effective website furiously quickly and I particularly like Webs templates for my stuff. You can run forums and all sorts that would take weeks or months to sort out with static HTML (if possible at all). These can provide a degree of interaction that will let your lad get nicely involved. Give them a look through and see if they are any use. All are, of course, free.

As for the domain names, you can get free *.tk names from your current domain names here: http://www.dot.tk/en/index.html?lang=en
Its not perfect, but I doubt a scammer will understand the difference between .com and .tk

If you take a free URL from say 000webhost, you can turn it into a .tk domain.

I hope this helps a bit

Thank you - I was not aware of those. I tried to register with 000Webhos, but the thing hangs when trying to register, so I was not impressed. I'll try again later, but I gave up. I'll try the other two.

I don't like the idea of being "locked in" to using some software, which generates poor HTML, which on a practical level one cant move to other sofware. Of course in theory HTML is HTML, but if a program writes poor HTML, it is difficult to then edit it with smething else.

I know I can write code which means the W3C "strict" standards, and will work with any browser. Of course, it might be fun on a web site to tell scammers that only Firefox is supported!

But the idea of a free host sounds good. It will give my bogus club a bit more credibility.

Hi there, was just interested in this thread. I was also looking at setting up a website. I got the free URL from 000webhost and the domain from .tk. Its active according to the control panel but hasnt been registered with the name servers, which takes 24 hrs I guess.

I Was just wondering what you meant by "If you take a free URL from say 000webhost, you can turn it into a .tk domain"

Also, with the 000webhost site.and your website.tk, is there any way the scammer can look up your details, specifically YOUR IP address or any other incriminating evidence?

Cheers Chris
