It is a classic pump and dump. They try to get enough people interested in the stock, and the more people want to buy it the higher the price goes. (Remember, stock price is a function of supply and demand, nothing more.) Then when the price goes high enough they dump the stock, making some cash. Not a 419 scam. |

I get 2 or 3 them in my RL work email every week.
I checked one out this week and at cents for a small O&G company drilling in the land Pastor Frank loves so dearly a $100 stake would be a good gamble if the wells came in. |

I think these guys just run a pump and dump. Pick an OTC or Pink Sheet stock with ultra-low volume, buy, put a sell order at a higher price, spam the world saying it's the next great thing until someone bites (presumably the sucker's buy order will be matched with your sale order), and profit. |

The spammer doesn't want to sell you shares, but for you to but them on the open market which increases their 'value' to retards who then buy in an upward moving stock.
Funnily enough I see the bitcoin market looks a bit like this with more press etc pumping the value. One day I have a hunch it'll crash and crash fast - like within hours they'll go from $90 to cents or less again once everyone realises they own some expensive numbers that only have value because they believe they do. |

Many saw it coming, but that didn't stop the Bitcoin bubble from bursting: after rising to dizzying heights, the digital currency suffered its first true crash this week.
The price of the virtual "geek" currency had soared through the stratosphere in recent weeks, trading for a high of $266 on Wednesday -- only to come hurtling back to Earth in just three days.
By Friday, a single Bitcoin was worth just $54, according to the Mt. Gox platform, which manages 80 percent of the Bitcoin transactions and had to briefly shut down trading Thursday.
