This is from the popular childrens BBC Blue Peter programme in 1969. I can remember watching this as a 9 year old 'live' at the time - not the same anymore is it, and what a pity

There were the pets as well - Val had Jason the cat, Peter had Petra the dog and John had Patch the dog. Not forgetting Frida the tortoise, who didn't seem to do much apart from go into hibernation and come out of it again

In those days television 'mostly' treated children like they were children. These days they're regarded purely as little consumers or potential market share.
Of course I wanted a Corgi Captain Scarlet SPV back then but wasn't made to feel like some social outcast if I didn't own one. The advertising that was aimed at us back then wasn't as cynical as it seems to be these days.
I'm amazed they didn't make a statue of that baby elephant it's so iconic for tv viewers of a certain age.  |

Of course, 1980s kids tv was the best EVER. (Bias? What bias?).
As with most tv, the key is to be selective and not just watch whatever's on, because some of it is truly dire.
We've come on a bit since the days of Hector's House (snzzzz), Muffin the Mule (tra-la-la) and Hartley Hare (you'll never sleep again!). |

I introduced my two grandsons to little rascals and a few other shows from my youth and they love them. they rather watch the old black and white stuff than sponge bob. theres hope yet. |

Good memories.
The Tomorrow People - The opening credits with that hand used to spook me - I remember there was one storyline called The Blue & the Green which was lost on me as I only had a black & white telly....
Magpie - two words: Jenny. Hanley.
On the down side:
I'm being subjected to a lot of kids TV right now courtesy of my g/f's 10 y.o. girl. She watches a lot of the Disney channel & Disney XD - 'Good Luck Charlie' Pair of Kings, Lab Rats and so on.
The programmes are stuffed full of multiple bursts of short idiotic canned laughter that really irritate me. |
