Hi there, this is my first post and therefore I am a noob, so excuse me if I don't know all of the rules straight away. Anyway..

I have a computer for sale on Amazon and I advertised it via Craiglist. This "woman" claiming to be from the States asked me to take the product off Amazon and sell it privately to her via Paypal. I explained that my Amazon account was connected to my Paypal account, so why not just buy the thing from Amazon. "she" then begged me in very bad English to do her a favour and do it privately via Paypal. I agreed to this, sent her an invoice and then she asked me to ship it to her friend in Nigeria. I already knew something was fishy, but that sealed the deal.

So far, zero has been paid into my account but "she" insists she has paid and could I hurry up and send it anyway lol. Do these people think we are all retards or what?

My question is: How can I waste as much of this idiots times and resources, resources and time that could be used on a more vulnerable person by this scumbag next time?

Best not to bait if the scammer knows your RL details; rather just drop the whole thing.

Probably best, don't want them screwing my Amazon account or something. Shame though, would of been nice to waste a bit of their time.

Would love to know why they think anyone would fall for that.

The fool has given me an address he wants me to ship my computer to. I don't know if the Nigerian cops will give a crap, but maybe one of you guys knows what to do with it.

Check the headers of the Paypal email. You'll find it's fake. Then just drop it. Don't answer her. Also check the headers of the email supposedly from the States. You'll probably find that the States in question are Ondo, Benue, Taraba, etc.

If this experience got you interested in wasting a scammer's time, there are a bazillion more of them out there. Drop this one (never never never bait a scammer that was connected to any part of your real life) and pick up a new one. Set up a baiting email and get started. Read the stickies in the Help & Tips forum, and bait safe. Smile

If you want to stick to messing with Craigslist scammers, you can post a fake Craigslist ad and they'll flock to you. Personally I think not enough baiters go the Craigslist route, and those lads are just not getting enough baiter attention!

I'm seriously tempted to give a pile of Craigslist lads a whole heap of grief as I'm rather bored with the regular bottom feeding lads right now. Besides, It's about time I brought some of my many characters out of retirement Smile

Hi James, welcome! I just started baiting back in November, but before I did I read everything I could on this site over a couple of months. Besides the stickies and forum posts, check out the baits on the 'Letters Archive' section (go to 419 eater home, then look at the top of the page and you will see it there with the other rooms), there are about 100 of them, but they gave me a really good indication of what to expect when baiting. A lot of your questions will be answered when you have read through the site, plus check out the links section for other sites with all kinds of info about scamming and baiting.

^^^We strongly discourage what you're suggesting, sometimes called "freight baiting". If you're sending it within the US it is going to a mule, who is most likely a victim him- or herself, caught up in a fake 'work at home' or romance scam.

If the lad wants you to send it overseas and gives you a Fedex, DHL, or UPS account to use, you can be sure that it's a hijacked account and some other person or company will be stuck with the bill.
