Hi JohnBrady
While you may think scam baiting is very funny, you must always remember that the people you are dealing with are ruthless and have no ounce of scruples to their false names.
Their victims are not to be laughed at, no matter how stupid you think they must be to fall for such a thing. There are a lot of lonely and naive people out there and it is they upon whom the scammers feed.
While scam baiting can indeed be funny, the whole point of it IMHO, is to waste the scammers' time as much as possible, thereby preventing them from using that time on genuine victims. The last thing a victim needs is to be laughed at. |
You do have a point Captain Gray, I do understand that I shouldn't laugh at the misfortunes of others. Everybody that worked with her, gave her the information to make a wise decision, the lady thought my mum and everyone else was "wrong" about the whole situation.
at last count she had sent over AUD $30 000, so that isn't anything to laugh about, that is a car or a house deposit.
I understand the "lonely" factor. I myself am lonely; and don't have a GF etc, but I wouldn't be sending money overseas to a person I have not met personally. Maybe I am just too well informed, and being 25, not in my 40s, I have a grasp on how these scams operate.
that being said, there are so many stories in the media about these scams, I can't see how people keep falling for them. there was one on 60 minutes about a 60 year old retired couple, who sank about the best part of $100 000 on these scammers. they said they were stupid and naïve to fall for that. |

^^Too true. I've been in the legal business for years and have watched it.
Several months ago I received a letter wherein a 'debt reseller' offered a confidential settlement for my overdue Sears account. The letter included a payment plan, and promised the dustup would not be on my credit report.
Problem: I've never had a Sears account. This attempt was complete BS, and targeted at older people. There are many fine folks who try to keep up with life, and some fear that they've let something slip through the cracks. An honest older person would write that check to settle an account that they think exists.
I went nuclear of course -- their payment site is shut down now. All I'm saying is that it's subtle, under the radar crap, that sucks good people in. My boss, 76 years young, gets emails asking for escrow services. Let's just say he now knows the delete key is his friend. |

Good morning, I hope you all had a very good Christmas. If Christmas isn't your thing then I hope the holiday period is proving beneficial.
My day job involves internet activity monitoring or something along those lines.
So by way of a busmans holiday and a means to target those who I can't by other means I signed up here. VampireMerchant is my mentor, my DDs appreciate that as they are vampire obsessed.
I am currently laying he ground work: signed up for the shuttle, seeded a few guestbooks through my catcher email.
I have set up five emails so far through gmail, gmx, mail.com and outlook. I'll set up another five during the day.
My worry was how to keep track of each operation. I have set up a spreadsheet on skydrive. It's very much a work in progress but currently it tracks current baiter email, mugu emaila nd name, type of scam, date of last contact (sent and received) and IP addresses.
A few initial contacts, Xmas day was quiet. I presume internet cafes are shut.
See you all around...
Off to the UNI...

as a 40something one is not amused. LOL
Agree with comments above not everyone is elderly or stupid etc. A few years ago a colleague with a Masters in Chemical Engineering fell for a telephone CC scam and lost a few hundred GBP. Although they felt stupid by being taken in they still sent an email to all employees outlining the scam so others would not be taken in. |

I used to be a member some time back, known to a lot of you and if any Admin or Mod wishes to pm me I'll be happy to reveal myself, and let you know why I'm starting over. I hasten to add that we didn't part on bad terms - old age, infirmity and a blown up computer didn't help.
i achieved a lot and got a lot of icons people treasure so much. Nothing against them but what counts is achieving them, and sometimes it's nice to start over. That's what I'm doing.
I'm at Scamwarners already and this is what sucked me in and I've reactivated an old and much loved character. Like him - don't mention my name in public.
Being three months shy of 60 I would confirm that being of a mature age doesn't make me witless, humourless or lacking in pure evil, but it's possible that I may be even more insane than I was the last time I was here. |

Hi
Been reading through over the last 24 hours. Have had some wonderful laugh out loud moments and certain senses of humor matches my own scorpionic nature. Loathe to post until I understand correct etiquette but have a question to ask and unsure of right place to do so.
Nature of question is..
Phone calls - persistent. Same person. Nigerian. Female. Up to 12 day.
Several emails sent to work email, (available on web).
However, phone calls are thought by caller to be coming to my work # but are in fact coming to my personal # caller does not know this and this is not available anywhere on the web or in association with my work pen-name.
Please advise where to post this message as am looking for assistance in establishing nature of scam - currently nothing that might suggest 419. Could be refugee.
Thanks |

Hello!
I'm new here! Sort of. I found 419eater years ago when I was just browsing around one night. I started reading the letters archive, and about scam baiting in general, and I just couldn't help but join. I couldn't remember my old login details to save my life, though. I did however end up doing a few successful baits back in those days. It's been quite a few years since my last, but I'm finally back and ready for round two.
For all intents and purposes, I'm still a noob, and still new here on the forum So once again, hello! I'm Nikonic, and I hope this time around I'll stay for good! |

Hey everyone. No mentor yet so I'll introduce myself, and fire off some questions. I dont understand everything i see posted yet. I have skills to offer, can photoshop with I believe some skill. I have excellent BS skill. My wife and kids all vouch for my agravation ability. my spelling sucks. lads r gonna love me!!!! What I need to know... 1)email stripped of ip??? do what
2) pushed link at bottom about ip info and am uncomfortable with result clearly I need to be more anonamous. 3) Have two boys... they did something to get the fbi send $300. np cleaning up. just rolled back to before. did some homework as result tobfy trojen was responcible after kids looked at porn. homework brought me here. love the idea. scam the scammers. brilliant. 4) the fbi scam, wanna go after them. seems ambitious. my thoughts if can find virus again and predict infection can I trace source as I get infected. 4a) will reporting payoff to greendot/cvs/walmart people kill the bank for these assholes. not that I will ever pay them. 4b) where do i find a hacker to teach me the neccessary skill for this bait??? 5) is this more than I should try. |

I am not going to give my real name (I never do that on the internet), and on this forum you can either call me by my username (ItsOver9000) (I sure am lucky that had not already been taken) or the name I use to scambait: Mallorie Stevenson. I love scambaiting and feel free to just ask me if you need help baiting. I am rather new to it, and would like a mentor though. Great to be here. |

After posting an item on craigslist and receiving many spam texts I looked online for tips on how to troll them. That didn't go far, a few hours was the longest I talked with one via text. Looking for more ideas for that is how I found this site. This seems much more enjoyable. After skimming the forums I think I am ready to begin. |

Hey guys, obviously I'm here because I might have nothing to do on the internet except for trolling I guess now?
I'm Danny from sunny Malaysia, yes from the city they call Kuala Lumpur, and I'm all legit
I'm 20 years old, and I'm sick and tired of trolling at that child's playground called Omegle. It was fun, but then again after receiving many spam letters and deleting it, I kinda found about the Eaters and here I am now
Well, you know I'm legit when my favorite things are pro wrestling (The Rock and Steve Austin taught me the art of trash talking, not that John Cena), Pretty Little Liars (seriously for you Americans, and I don't see any youths here I guess, it's a great thriller show and you guys should watch), and maybe.....random stuff I guess
I'm kinda hoping that I would be something of a master in it and get those baddies to jail |

Hi All
Issac here from a super sunny Johannesburg, South Africa
I am in my mid 40's and get at least 10 scam e-mails a day. I have reached that point where i am gatvol( South African slang literal translated as "full buttock" but used to mean "fed up" or "irritated").
One of my close friends was scammed out of some money on the puppy scam, this has upset me. I started trolling the web to see if there was some way that I can upset this ass. I found 419eater and knew i was in the right place
If I can disrupt one of these idiots operation then I think that I will have done my bit.
Cheers
Issac |

I messed up and posted this as a new topic, not a reply to this topic. So I cut and pasted my message to post here, correctly. I'm sorry for the misstep!
Greetings everyone! I am Alice Liddell, and I have actually been lurking on this site for about 4 months now before I finally stepped up to introduce myself. I am hoping to become a very active member in the 419eater community. I discovered this site one night about 3 months ago when Dateline was replaying an episode of ‘To Catch a Thief’ with Chris Hanson, where Chris ran a sting on a 419 scammer to try and find out more about the practice. When I was watching it, I starting wondering what exactly these emails say (believe or not, I have never read one, most of my spam folder I scan for non-spam and then delete it all), so when I searched ‘Nigerian scam’ this site was one of the first few that came up. From that moment, a whole new world opened up to me and I was enthralled. I’m quite severely disabled, my spine was broken in an accident 6 years ago and I have had 3 spinal fusion surgeries, so I spend a huge amount of my day online, just reading stuff. Because of this, I had the time to spend the next 6 weeks after first finding this site reading through every bait on the Letters Archive, and my husband and I were literally rolling with laughter at what we read in those baits. I decided within reading the first few baits by Shiver Metimbers (you sir are amazing!) that I would become a baiter, and by the time I read through not only all of his but all of the ones on the rest of that page, I was obsessively hooked. I also read many of the baits in the forums section, and took my time reading as many FAQs, stickies, Baiting University posts, and general information. I have read hours worth of learning to bait safely, and I started baiting about 2 months ago. I currently have numerous baits running, and they are not only some of the best fun I have had in awhile, but I am going to have my lads tearing their hair out by the end. I have one that was actually my first ever bait started, and not only is it still going strong, but it looks like I am getting a Safari out it! I don’t want to go into detail yet, but I will post what has happened in it on here up to the Safari point when that happens this Monday, then I am going to have my character imprisoned and see if I can push the bait even further after that (the prosecution will be offering reward money for testimony against my character!). I have some others where I’ve gotten some good trophies, and still more where I am hoping for some good frustration on the lad’s part.
After I post this I will sign up for my mentor, and I plan on becoming a very active member here; this is my new hobby, and I have nothing but time for hobbies on my hands! I also like to paint, read, make jewelry and other crafts, watch movies/TV dramas, and I am married with 3 dogs and 3 cats. I am looking forward to making some good friends on this site, and to becoming a great baiter and doing the world some service. I read numerous articles about real victims and the impact on their lives (and the people who were kidnapped and murdered by scammers) so I think that since law enforcement can’t get these guys, baiting is a public service. Plus, whoever first called it a 21st century bloodsport is right on the dot! Oh, and this is my first time ever using the forum style, so if I make any mistakes please bear with me, and let me know how to fix them. I’m a quick learner, so I’ll get the hang of it! |

Hi guys, I'm papuasblya (the name is a bizarre curse shouted in Moscow traffic). I'm an expat living in Russia. I have oddly never been approached in a Russian marriage scam but I get African-origin stuff all the time. I've just had an sms scam started on me and I'm returning to bait the good Dr Attorney Ahmed Azin. This is my first time, so be gentle on me. Anyone want to walk me through the basics? |

Welcome to the Scammers' Worst Nightmare milesryan
There's a lot to learn though you don't need a university degree or technical knowledge to grind scammers to dust. Plain cunning and imagination are your best tools, along with following a few simple rules for safety will get you a long way.
Don't expect too much too soon and consider just playing them along is enough to start with. You play with them as they would play with victims and, in doing so, you learn all about them, and how they operate.
Baiters differ as scammers do, and it takes time to find your preferred angle. Some do what we call straight baiting (playing the victim) and others, like me, operate at the more insane end of the spectrum, because it amuses me.
Above all else, go in to the sunlight at least once a week, unless you have a scammer going on a long trip - or worse. |
