For Israel/Palestine. No judgement, no blame, no discussion of right/wrong. Just prayers/meditation/good thoughts for peace in the region. It's been on our news constantly for the last couple of days and I see folks asking me to "support" one side or another constantly on FB today. the thought I keep having is - I don't want to take "sides," I want to pray for peace. Please don't get this thread locked with discussion of the politics behind the issues there... I think the one common ground that we can probably all agree on is that positive vibes for peace is a good thing. That's all I'm asking for. Cool

Today, I was watching the news with memories of previous conflicts and wondered when there will ever be peace in the region.
We are all humans with families and crave peace for each other.
I can't comprehend the hate that is created in a simple religious belief.

I am currently reading (and enjoying) a cook-book by a Jew and a Muslim; Two good friends, both from the same place... Jerusalem.

They point out the fact that the place has had religious visitors for thousands of years and therefore is one of the most diverse places on Earth.

When my wife brought the book home, I cast it aside with some remark about chicken soup and dumplings but as pointed out, the region is very rich in the influence of visitors worldwide.

If only modern day people would realise the value of the culture that they have on their doorstep!

I actually end up going to Tel Aviv fairly regularly and it is encouraging that at an individual level the varied religions there just muddle along really well with a usefully pragmatic approach to things, keeping shops and transport running on each other's holy days and generally getting on with life. There have always been Arabs there as well as Jews and a fair number of Christians too, it's quite diverse in terms of not just the different cultures and religions there but the vastly differing extents to which they are observed. My point is, people can get along very well with each other despite - perhaps because of - their differences, and it is my hope that they will be allowed to do so in time.

^Fowan Nyne: An interesting thing to bear in mind is that a great number of Jews within Israel were not born there, but grew up in completely different nations before making aliyah ("Ascent") and obtaining Israeli citizenship. Some were born into different religions altogether but converted later in life, some were born into Jewish families abroad. I've met former residents of Russia, England, France, India, America, the list goes on. One guy I talked to went when his daughter decided to go, and ended up taking his whole family. He had a distinct Yorkshire accent, and used to sell machine tool parts up north before he retired. I do hope he's alright.
