While I was baiting a mystery shopper scammer last spring, I used a payment delay modality that I thought I would share - Jury Duty! I told my lad that I would not be able to get to the WU office because I had to report to jury duty first thing Monday morning. I would also not have access to email or phone during the day, as such devices are not permitted in court. He asked if I could go to WU on my lunch break. I said no because we were not allowed to leave the court house for lunch. I strung it out for 3 weeks because I was selected to serve on a jury for a murder trial, and the jury was sequestered for the duration of the trial. When I emailed him at night (supposedly from the hotel where the jury was sequestered), I gave him lengthy descriptions of the facts and developments of the murder trial. He was going NUTS, as I had told him that I already deposited his (fake) check.

So, it you haven't tried it before, educate your lad on the United States judicial system and the duty of every good, honest citizen to serve on a jury. You can string it out for weeks!

well done, the same would work in the UK

I had a character who was deeply involved in litigation in the country's capital (some 200 miles away) and kept rushing off to consult with his lawyer
he did have somewhat useless PA who tried hard to be helpful but didn't really have access to $$

just a thought, you could easily get recalled if an appeal was lodged surely? Very Happy

Actually, once I had my fill of fun with this lad and was ready to ditch him, I pulled in a second "scammer" (also me). I told my lad (Jehuda Wilson) that I had received an email from his supervisor at Mystery Shoppers, Inc. telling me that Mr. Wilson had been fired and that I now reported to the supervisor (David Scott) and had sent him all the western union information. I copied Jehuda on the email from Mr. Scott. I also sent Jehuda an email from David telling him that I'd hacked his email account and stolen all his mugus. (I actually did hack his email, just to make it authentic. It totally freaked him out.)

Jehuda was FURIOUS. He kept telling me that Mr. Scott was a hacker and a liar, and that he had not been fired. But, I insisted that I worked for Mr. Scott now. That produced a good week of emails, all of which were in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. I think I have him an aneurism. He finally quit emailing me.

He ended up shutting down his email address, and I now know that my hacking him was a mistake. I know better now. But it was REALLY FUN!

OK it is good to read that you understand now

for new readers;
by shutting his email account down you lose a good opportunity to waste his time repeatedly and by have him working your various guises maybe drop real victims who aren't as cooperative as you (plus in most countries hacking accounts is illegal so we don't condone this as you never know when we need LE to trust us and take action)

Generally lads can be very paranoid and with a little 'help' will jump at every shadow, hence the joy of introducing the lads to the Gomer gang. If they end up doubting real victims as part of this, well that is all goodness eh?

What is this "gomer gang"? I've read other posts referring to "Mr. Gomer", but I haven't seen an explanation yet. Sounds like a wonderul torture technique I'd like to learn. lol Thanks.

Depending on your perspective, the G0mer gang is either:

(a) a ruthless band of scammers with a knack for stealing fund transfers and otherwise interfering with fellow scammers; or

(b) A complete fabrication invented by 419eater's illustrious member Gomerpyle.

I will let you decide which is more accurate.

many baiters have a character who is a G0mer gang member, good for taunting a lad when you have chopped his payment if you like that sort of thing Very Happy

some experienced baiters have lads so convinced that they get a tattoo in order to join the gang
e.g. if you read Shorty's many adventures you will see that he is is completely convinced that they are real
