Don't be too terribly surprised if the buyer doesn't actually complete the transaction. There have been many instances on eBay of insane sales that turned out to have jokesters as "buyers."

On the other hand, there is a sucker born every minute. Those of you who go back a very long way may remember the introduction of "New Coke" in 1985. In the weeks after "old" Coke was discontinued some people paid insane prices for unopened six-packs expecting them to become valuable collectors' items in the future. Oops.

You never know what motivates some people when it comes to collecting. Two words: "Beanie Babies." Laughing

Well, I am a bit of a collector myself - I have a decent comic book collection, and I was very much into a tactical board game called Heroclix for 5 years, which costed me a fortune getting figurines for the game. Wink

I can understand collectors - it's a pursuit of perfection, really. But... BBQ sauce from 1992?!? Laughing

I've got 2 milk crates full of these damned things but I paid nothing for them really. One of my tenants was thrown out and I found a lot of these in there when I cleaned it up. I found quite a few more at a thrift store for about .50 each.

I did pay $175 each for the Ken and Barbie Harley editions.

I need to start getting rid of some of my junk collections and pick up more of the ones I like.

I saw a posting about an auction the other day for a guy and girl selling their virginity. Hers was at 6 figures while he was at 4. Some people will buy anything.

Talk about beanie babies, I was able to teach one of my babies every animal in the world with them and he was occupied for hours. The 2nd babe slung them around the room with no interest. They are now keeping the attic warm. Laughing

Edit: Forgot about the time we sent 50 (I had 150 Shocked

) to our troops to give to the little kids. They fit just right in their pockets.

We kept all the bears and the ones for holidays. I always have something for little ones when they come around. Cool

^^^Speaking of Beanie Babies, I had to do some digging to find this ebay post from a few years ago.

I was glad to see that he wasn't bitter.

(IIRC, he ended up getting a little more than $800 for the lot)

An acquaintance was having a hard time so I bought several plastic storage containers of Mark Robert's Fairies from her. http://www.mark-roberts.com/

They could be sold on eBay easily if she would have left them in the boxes, saved the paperwork and not put them on display without protection from dust etc.

Lesson learned.

I recall the Billy, the JR and MASH beers. There are a few oddball ones that come out every now and again. I've got the rather new Coors with the church key tops and an old Bavarian Busch can from way back. I've got 2 old Olympia cans but they are attached to my caveman/woman toys.

I forgot about the Grolsch with ceramic stoppers.

Those Grolsch ones with the ceramic tops are great to save and reuse if you make your own beer.

Ah, yes, the good old Grolsch beugelflessen (don't know how to properly translate that to English -- Google Translate turns "beugelfles" into "bottle bracket", but that doesn't look quite right to me).
They were already known for that when I was a child, and they're still available. They give the beer drinking experience just that little extra (although I hardly drink any beer nowadays).

I think bottle bracket is pretty close to a proper description. The wire bracketing is connected to both top and bottle.

I agree that the words are pretty close, but they're at least the wrong way around. Bracket-bottle would be much better IMHO.
