^^ give it try. Fondue is a lousy way to treat a good piece of beef though.

For the record free range organic chicken is decent and knocks chicken out of the sissy category.

Oh my mother loves pickled eggs. How you get passed the smell and actually take a bite is beyond me. BRRR. Embarassed

The smell of a pickled egg is really no different than that of a pickled cucumber.Now as far as things behind the bar,I have never had the guts to try the pickled pigs feet but the pickled hocks are very nice.

I haven't had pickled eggs in years. I really should make some. My father ate them like popcorn. My mother was constantly pickling new batches.

It was also a staple at the bar I hung out at in college; 15c each if memory serves (it was a very long time ago). A pickled egg with a draft beer. Yum. Seriously.

Edit to add: there is no excuse for adding red coloring to pickled eggs. Mad

For the same reason people pickle cucumbers: the resulting product is delicious. Wink

I make batches of pickled eggs as well. Large free range eggs, brown pickling vinegar with a pinch of black pepper and dried herbs.

Lovely in a salad or just with a bag of crisps. Wink

Is the pickled egg thing something regional? My Granny was a big pickler, but I don't recall her ever doing that with eggs.

I don't think it's regional. I grew up in New England, and they were everywhere there. I went to college in the midwest, and the bars had them. PF says they're all over Wisconsin. Pretty wide range.

I'm more inclined to wonder if they have lost popularity; maybe they're in the category of jello molds and many other common foods of the Eisenhower era.....

Don't think so as you find jars of them for sale in supermarkets and (proper) pubs throughout the UK, but you can't beat the home produced ones. Eat in moderation though Embarassed

^^^they sell pickled eggs in our local Chippy, i like them and also their large picked onions, the wife however likes a wally now and again.

I raised chickens so it would only be fair that my vote for sissy meat counts as 5.

As to pickled eggs being like cucumber pickles I am not fond of them either. But a tiny bit of relish on a cony hotdog is acceptable.
