Thank you for all your wishes of safety. I am trying to use this dang laptop and you have to have fingers of a pygmy and no fingernails to type on it.

We boarded up the outside and put all possible items which could have become projectiles in the shed. We evacuated to Mobile AL to a place we call our hurricane "hole" hotel. (Those of you who have put boats into a safe place know the term "hurricane hole") We waited out Katrina at this place and it is well protected from wind and flood.

The cats are not happy about this and remain under the bed at the hotel.

Dharma, before I left home I put your address on the hot tub so if the winds are favorable you should have one in your back yard "soonest" Laughing

The t.v. reception here is spotty because of the rain. The hotel has a "dish" system and when it rains heavy the picture goes.

Just hope when I get back home, I have one.

I hear the USS Alabama is the safest place in Mobile. Good luck be safe.

During Katrina, the USS Alabama was shaken off her "stationed" and had to be re-floated later. But it was safe.

Was able to get home even though we drove over some flooded roads. We were home no more than 30 mins when we got the call that Mobile, Alabama was going to open their flood gates -- even though we are in another state it will affect us and flood our neighborhood.

So we have to boogie out of there immediately as the Sheriff was going through the neighborhood advising of the imminent danger -- Mobile is going to release enough water that it will flood our area 5 to 7 feet.!!!!!!!!! Talk about a pissed off neighborhood. You see there is a river at the end of our street.

So we returned to where we evacuated to - but upgraded to a different hotel.

On another note. There is an alligator farm near us and during Katrina the flooding was so great that the water was several feet over the top of the fences where the gators were kept. The 'gators swam out.

As I passed by there today, looks like the 'gators have escaped again.

BRUIN, I hope you have some of them "redneck Reeboks" (aka as "shrimpers boots or just plan boots) - Stay safe and keep your powder dry.

Just got the latest report. There is no flooding in around my house at this time; however, the roads getting to my neighborhood are completely flooded. One poor soul tried to get through, but ran off the road into a big ditch and had to be towed out.

So another day and evening of whopping Q. at Canasta!!! Thank heavens I thought to bring decks of cards along!

This is at the end of our street. Water is 10 feet high. The boaters are Dakota, Riz and Chad (all good ole southern boys)

No $3 charge for parking and/or boat launch today!!

Shingle Mill Landing "boat launch" Water is almost 12 high at this point.

A neighbor who stayed (she has 2 story home) has been sending pictures. She went to my property and took some for us. We have some flooding in the backyard but nothing in the house so far. Our problem is that we cannot get through flooded areas to get to my house.

@master Give me a fast moving 'cane rather than a Cat 1 which moves at 6 to 8 miles per hour and is 300 - 500 miles wide. Then pray that I am on the left side of the 'cane. Our problem with this one is that we were on the right side of it -- that is the bad side

The odd part of it is that our neighborhood only lost power for about 30 mins.

The aforementioned neighbor's husband is supposed to be arriving today or tomorrow from Nigeria. He is a Captain of one of the oil rigs out there.

When he comes home on a 30 day rotation he always says "The "lads" said to make sure that I tell you hello from them -- do you have a message you would like me to take back?" I suggest some Twisted Evil

That sounds like quite an adventure and I am glad you are making it through safely. If you find any of those alligators in your backyard are you going to shoot them and eat them? I know you can turn their skin into boots and purses and such..... but I have heard they can be eaten and actually do taste good.

^^^ We don't consider this an "adventure" more like a PIA.

Most of the 'gators that would be around us would have escaped from the nearby alligator farm. The gators swim out from their fenced in areas when the area is flooded and the 'gator swim out over the fences. When things calm down these same gators will go back to where they have been living and the gator keeper puts them back in their pens. The gators are spoiled -- getting regular meals!

Our biggest concern after a hurricane is the accompanying tornadoes.

Just like my kids!!

My father in law in Baton Rouge just got power back this morning after three days of outage. Neighbors were good enough to look in on him. Rivers and bayous are still swollen and they are evacuating parts of Ascension Parish.

Fingers crossed in Canada. Please take care and don't fret. I would personally stick with Cribbage though as Canasta can be somewhat ponderous.

We haven't had any rain as far as I can ascertain for several months. Yeah I did go on a Safari to Europe for a few weeks but everything in my neck of the woods (and I do mean woods) is in a word crunchy and ready to ignite.

The shot above reminds me of a time in the Nort where I was asked by a Norterner:

Nortener: 'who owns the CAT?'

Me: 'Me'

Nortener:'round here we call them Acrtic Scrap'.

Me:'Does everyone in your village have a speech impediment?'

Me and da Nortener have since become friends but there was some tension for a bit....

Anyhow just an amusing personal story to break the tension.

Haven't heard from BRUIN. Hope he is doing OK now that Issac has gone up that way. Even as a Tropical Depression it is gonna be rainy.
