For those of you who have baited lads/vlads using fake dating site profiles - what about your profile attracted them to you? |

female: middle aged, lonely, well-off, not too many friends overweight, no family.
easy pray, basically they don't care, but vulnerable, is the preference. Phone contact mostly a "must" so find a elution for that,
male: same, but less important, the attraction factor is played over pictures of unknown model. Man are so easy to convince |

I've never had trouble getting by the phone request due to the jobs I set my profiles in. I can dodge those easily. Same with more than one pic request as the computers belong to the business, not mine personally. I keep one pic for each of my characters and that is all they get. If I am not at my PC I just tell them I am using one of the laptops that belong to the company and they will have to wait until I get back to work. Of course I can forget these little things at times too.
Set up one you don't believe will catch real people and you should be good as long as you fit the middle-aged, not pretty, a bit of cash to throw about or not.

Middleaged.
Dumpy, average.
Affluence doesn't matter. The silliest thing I see new baiters do is post a profile about yachts, multiple homes, fancy cars....
All the scammers care about is you have some money they can steal, or the ability to borrow some, and you will pay attention to them.
You don't have to put much effort into the profiles, as long as you cover the basic middleaged/dumpy-ish. |

Profiles with no photo will still attract scammers--but there will be some who are suspicious of those profiles.
As Stepan said, there is absolutely no need to claim you are wealthy, or even moderately well off. Some very successful baiter characters are only one paycheck away from foreclosure. You can claim to be a single struggling parent, and you will draw just as many scammers. If you don't have cash, they'll be happy to encourage you to sell your car, mortgage your house, take out a payday loan, borrow it from your family--they will push you to do whatever it takes to get your hands on money.
Making your character well-off will increase the likelihood of drawing real people and beggars, leaving more to have to sort through.
Recently divorced/widowed and new to the world of dating online can be more encouraging to some scammers (you are less likely to be aware of scammers and therefore more likely to fall for them) . So can being over-the-top sappy and romantic. |

In addition to middle aged and "conventionally unattractive", some scammers are also keen on targeting people with disabilities, whether focusing on specific demographic sites like Deaf Passions etc, or on general sites. I guess it's also related to vulnerability and (perceived) greater chance of loneliness and desperation.
I agree with others who say "avoid wealth". The less money your character has, the better (as long as you don't make it ridiculous), this adds a further note of desperation the scammers are quick to take advantage of. |
