Kitten Rescue - Happy Ending

Earlier this afternoon my daughter went out to check the mail and heard a faint meow. She followed the sound until she determined that it was coming from a sewer. She was able to look into the sewer opening and see a very small kitten in obvious distress. With melting heart, she called the fire dept who actually sent a crew out in 100 degree heat. They arrived within ten minutes. Ten minutes later, with the help of some cat food as bait (compliments of my two cats) they lured the kitten out.

She walked with a slight limp and had a small gash on the side of her neck but was otherwise OK. One of the firefighters had just lost a family cat so the rescue kitten was a timely replacement.

A pat on the back for our brave rescue workers. The suburban weekly publishes the previous weeks' fire and police calls. I'll find out next week if they include kitten rescues.

Awww, stories like this make me sniffle. Well done to the firemen with hearts of gold, and to your daughter for following the sound in the first place. She's a lovely kitty, glad she's got a good home now.

^^^After we thanked the firefighters for coming out, one of them mentioned that they seldom pull cats from sewers but are often called out to rescue Canada Geese from the sewers around the public pool. Rolling Eyes

Ducks and such getting stuck in storm drains is fairly common. Baby ducks especially because they fall though the slots as they follow mom. The mother will wait by the drain hoping they can get out. So if you ever see a duck hanging out by a storm drain, look inside it Wink

I remember someone who found a sea lion in a storm drain. They had to remove the storm drain and the concrete around it to get it out.
