I'm from Oklahoma with an Okie "Yes ma'am, ya'll come back now" twang. To hear me try to do British mimicry is laughable.

But, when I sing, I've been told that I do a very good Roger Waters imitation.

Any thoughts? Monsignor? Want to chime in?

I'm originally from northern California and don't, as far as I know, really have an accent....which is pointed out to me often at work, when people demand to know where I'm from.

I am a fairly good mimic, however, as long as I'm not thinking about what I'm doing.

I have a good ol' Georgia accent tempered with seven years in southern California. And I've watched enough British TV to where their accents sound normal to me. Those Canadians, on the other hand... Smile

RL I guess. I've been here just a bit over 6 months...do we go through predictable phases? Have I just past some algorithmic equation that says "Justcold will now be contributing 50% less content in the next 2 months".?

Even so, Canadians...how can one be "aboot" something? Really? I lived in Grand Rapids, MN for a year and heard the unholy encroachment of Canadaese into our beautiful American dialect.

BTW..PF, Ts said he was from Northern California. That's just southern Canada in my book. Please DB. I will report.

I presume the Aussie accent sounds funny to some people.

I used to have a thick southern American accent when living overseas. Lost it soon after I returned home. Now sound almost like a cross between an Aussie and a Kiwi Laughing

Having lived all over the US and in Canada (yes, PF in Canada, eh?), I find I can speak Canadianese quite well. Although I am originally from the mid-west, I was told once that I speak with a California accent (now what the heck is that?)

I can do southern well, but it still has that mid-western nasal sound. I can do redneck quite well and get a lad to actually hang up the phone when I start on saying "euros"

Now I do like the word "whilst" and use it in writing. Maybe my proper English M I L subliminally made it enter my vocabulary.

JustCold could do Clark Gable quite well I think. Wink

Or many women under forty who don't have the same reaction when they hear Ewan McGregor's honey-dipped tones?

My personal fave is Bajan english spoken in the Caribbean. Hard to follow sometimes but absolutely beautiful to listen to.

A frenchman speaking English is very sexy though.....

Apparently the most trusted English accent is Geordie or North Yorkshire and the least is Liverpuddlian.

I do like a southern states drawl though, its well very comfortable.

Being a West country lad the Geordie accent is bit strange, and a Brummie (Birmingham accent) is quite amusing - no doubt they feel the same about mine, however I have been to Finland several times where they can speak English very well albeit with an American accent (probably to do with the language tapes they get at school). but it is a lot better than me trying to learn Finnish.

justwhistle there is nothing upperclass about the word 'innit'.

American accents: Southern girls accents are sooo sexy.

Anyway, back to strangling those cats............
