This is about standard electricity that enters your home, not heavy electricity. How much do you pay?
Let's keep this apples to apples and quote the price in KWH and in $USD so I can make sense of it. (I'm looking at you Canada) Please give a vague description as to where you are. I'm on a rage about my electric bill.
Minnesota, USA
$0.18 KWH |

Switzerland (somwehre in the east)
High-rate tariff (Mo-Fr07:00-19:00) - USD 0.26/kWh
Low-rate (nights & weekend) - USD 0.17/kWh
Modern, energy-saving appliances and CFL / LED bulbs are widespread here though, which helps keep total costs (mostly) below the pain treshold.
ETA: What about fuel prices?
Unleaded, 95 octane - USD 1.86/l (USD 7.06 / gal)
Unleaded, 95 octane - USD 1.92/l (USD 7.28 / gal)
Diesel - USD 1.97 / l (USD 7.48 / gal) |

Regular unleaded is around $3.50 a gallon here. How many here are old enough to remember "leaded" gas? |

Northern California: I pay $.079/KWH during "off-peak" hours, and $.313/KWH during "Summer peak" hours. Don't ask me what those peak hours are, I don't know and my bill doesn't say. But even though I work at home and therefore consume power throughout the day, my "peak" usage constitutes only 17% of my total electricity consumed. My net average cost for this past month came to $.12/KWH, or 2/3 as much as yours.
This does not include a charge of $.115 per day for the privilege of having an electric meter. In other words, I have to pay them to track my consumption. |

I pay .12 KWH in North Texas but we do not have peak and nonpeak changes to the rate. We are unregulated so we can shop around and you usualy have to switch every couple years to keep good rates. We have an energy star house so worst part of summer (remember we broke the recorded record for most consecutive days over 100 last year) total cost is about $200. We are frugal though and keep the temperature at 77 and blinds closed during the day.
I paid $3.15 a gallon for gas the last time I filled up which is the cheapest I've paid in a while but I have to fill up twice a week.
One of these days we in the US will pay what everyone else in the world pays for gas and I'll have to get a moped.
Edit: just a point of refferances my mother in law has a 15 year old house 15 minutes away and her electricity bill was $800 during August last year but she also lives in a regulated city so only one choice for an electricity provider I think she was closer to .19 KWH. |

Your timing is impeccable. I just opened last month's electric bill. Let's see . . .
In western Ohio its $.086 per kw/h for the Generation Charge. After things called "Customer Charge," "Distribution Charge" and "Transmission Related Charges" are added in it comes to $.1316 per kw/h.

I was back in Iowa a couple of weeks ago and filled up in a station that had a regular leaded pump. The attendant told me that some of the farmers in the area still used it in their older tractors and other equipment. |

According to my latest electricity bill, I've paid £0.1401 for day and £0.0612 for night energy per kWh
Unleaded petrol 95 octane is £1.30
Diesel is £1.37
I'm living in South East England, prices given are in pounds.
Edit: corrected £0.0612 instead of £0.612 |

^ Hi, and welcome to Eater.
I understand you may be from Canada so I will limit my language and rage against you. Any and all discussion of maths and math related items here will be done in American English only. £ is an unknown math related quantity, £ is probably some Canadian Communist attempt at destroying the youth of America.
Again, welcome to Eater zzz. I will find plenty of time to hate you in the future. |

^^^ Oh, forgive my ignorance Pastor Frank, I totally forgot you asked the prices in USD. If you're still interested, here are the prices I quoted re-calculated in USD according to today's foreign exchange rates
Electricity - day energy: $0.22/kWh
Electricity - night energy: $0.096/kWh
Unleaded gas 95 octane is $2.04/l
Diesel is $2.15/l |

$0.127/kwh Oklahoma City. PF, I would set zzz to "Watch".
Scratch him off the list and the next thing we know....we're all drinking Moosehead and buying gas by the litre.
Litre? Is that even a word? |

zzz please excuse Pastor Frank, he is a great guy living in one of our happy tax free ex colonies (USA) and probably unaware of the shite we have to put up with. Petrol here now is about £6 (over $9) a gallon (UK) and it's now sold nowadays in litres not gallons for some strange reason.
I have some relatives in Canada where fuel and energy prices are a lot lower and some whisky bottles are made of plastic so they don't smash if you drop them |

I know for a fact that Pastor Frank has never dropped a whiskey bottle. He has emptied several hundred (in the past year) but somehow he manages to never break one. The contents are too valuable.

$0.10/Kwh Canadian, or $0.09813 U.S, but who's counting?
I dunno PF, but at that rate, it's obvious that your hard eared money is going to those eastern Canada commies who are selling their surplus capacity to your own utility company

^^ Wouldn't work. Assuming an AWG14 wire and a voltage of 110V, the resistance of the extension cord would limit your power consumption to about 150mW at best (and probably much much less in RL circumstances), which considerably limits the range of appliances you can use.
It'd take you about 278 days at full load to use 1kWh of electricity. In addition, another kWh would be lost on the way to you, effectively doubling the cost per kWh (not to mention the cost for a 1500 mile extension cord).
Sorry to shatter your dreams. |
