This is the scam which annoyed me enough to pull me into baiting. Dunno why, but it did.

I received a "FINAL WARNING" email in my everyday email. Apparently the FBI has been trying to contact me and thinks I've been ignoring them, and now the director of the FBI will tell the mayor of my city to close my account and my boss to fire me since criminals aren't supposed to work. And apparently because I'm an "internet fraudster."

But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The director has told me there is a private attorney who can endorse and stamp a certificate for only $90.

I created an email address and persona. I emailed a "reply" from that address, pasting in the text of the original. I am taking an utterly clueless approach. What's going on? What have I done? Why is this happening. And more importantly what can I do to make it right and good again?

This morning I had a reply which was essentially a repeat of the first message. I responded to say I could not get to a Western Union, but I will be in the region next week and can bring the lawyer the money in cash. If he can wait and meet me, I'll even bring extra as a thank you for his kindness and mercy.

I received a reply telling me to "Send me your passport or drivers licence." Knowing that is just not done, I replied, once again clueless. I don't drive, but I do have a passport. But... how do I send it to you? I need it to travel! Then... I had an amazing idea! What if I photocopy it and mail it? Surely he can tell me what address to send it to, and I will mail it tomorrow. Scouts honor.

So... so far, pretty clumsy. But I'm wasting some of his time, so I win.

Thanks for the welcome and warning. I >think< I have the safety side down. I've read here a LOT. I'm using gmail and hmamail for the email, not using any real life info, and am stringing along the request for a passport, and will never send a real or fake one. Once my lad teaches me how to scan an image into my computer, I'll send him... Oh, I think I'll start with the outside of a passport wallet, as if I scanned the wrong side. :p Maybe then a nice big MP3 renamed as a BMP. Smile

I went to the Mentor signup when I signed on yesterday. It said full up, check back later. But right now, I'm happy using some of my spare time to waste some of his.

^^^^ I guess I will be proactive. I'll send another email asking if everything is okay, and begging not to be arrested.

Edit: Okay, that maybe worked. . I sent an email asking if he got my last email. I'm so very scared, I don't want to be arrested, please tell me if I can mail you a copy of my passport and where to mail it. I can't send him my real passport because I need it to travel.

(I'm just playing dumb for him. He said "send me your passport" and so I'm playing like I don't know he means a scan; I think he means the real thing.)

He just replied with "send me your passport before further discussion."

I replied with the same line. If I send it, I can't travel, and I can't meet his friend. So can I send a copy instead and will he tell me where?

"I have my passport right here. How do I attach it to the email? Do I
just hold it up while I send the email? I'm trying that right now. Do
you see it?"

Sounds like you have a good start. I have also seen people in the past who have scanned the front of a passport (with just the national information) and sent that....I am sure someone on here has that.

I would think the Director of the FBI has access to all passports. You may have that dawn on your character at some point.

I almost never send them files. I did do the passport cover once, and they seemed to accept it. Remember: they don't really want your passport, all they want is to sound official and maybe see if they can make you do what ever they want.

I have done baits where I kept stalling this. Somehow this not too particularly bright lad got into the idea that he really needed my passport and we've been going on about it for almost 2 weeks (daily mails, sometimes more than daily!!) discussing about passports, him reassuring me he was being carefull, him sending me with a picture of him holding his passport, sending renamed .dll files, me complaining.. etc..
You get the drift. I had lots of fun doing this!

I had lots of fun there. In the end he just accepted that I did what I could and said "I believe you are a man of great trust. I don't need your passport."

Then we moved on Smile

Remember the golden rule: everything that goes wrong is the scammers fault!

^^^^ Well, in this case, for my first ever bait, I decided to play it pretty dumb. But cooperative. So, no passport for him, but by god was I willing to try.

At this point, I think it's done. He never replied yesterday, or to another VERY worried message today about how I don't want to be arrested. But it was only the first. I believe I have acquired a taste for this. Twisted Evil

Don't worry about that. When they end up in our boxes, they usually end up posted here anyway, so with the next (or you might even go for one of the current hitlads, go for "HITLAD! Donkakiller / Clement Joshua" or "Too many James Bond movies"). The second hitlad has a really short fuse, he cursed out my character for being cooperative, but slow.

The thing about Mr. Clement is that he's stupid and lazy. Either that, or he's stupid and can't afford to go to the cafe often. True, hitlads are dumb to begin with, but this one give it a whole new meaning. I mean, my character told him his bank transfer would happen on Friday, and he send me a message on Thursday asking where the money was. My old 80 year-old character had to administer a mild slap for that.
Best to go to surplus and find a current one and play with him. Hitlads can be fun with a straight bait, but they are also known for being one of the dumber types of lads we deal with.

And the thing about mr. Dwaggin (too many Bond movies) is that he's part of a 3-man scammer gang. The smartest one in this gang was safaried from Nigeria to Kenya (which was the third time he travelled). He's incredibly stupid and short tempered.

Welcome here MMG. Some lads take the weekend off but are back on monday. And if not, there are lots of lads in surplus, or you can join the shuttle. You're on the right track with baiting, you'll get experianced in no time and waste their time much more.
