Other than that, I like dark lagers, or ale's, like this:

On a warm summer day, though, nothing is better than a cold Czech or Bavarian pilsener.

Yes, we Belgians do drink Leffe, it's a starter beer in the medium segment. It's exported as a special beer, but it really isn't anything out of the ordinary here. As illustration, I've never heard a beer enthousiast say it's their favourite. It's not bad but.. lots of better ones to be found.

What do you prefer? Blond/dark/amber, or the fruity segment,.. ?

Duvel, yes! Quite strong (8.5 iirc) but perfect to drink while sitting in the sun. Do make sure it's properly chilled though, if it's too warm it tastes horrid.

La Chouffe
Piraat
Achel Blond
Gentse Tripel
Moeder Overste
Sint Bernardus Triple
Grimbergen

Those are the ones I can remember on the top of my head (as I drank these in the last month or something) I have no idea whether these beers are exported to the US - in some cases I'd be surprised - but these are medium to heavy blond/amber beers which the advanced Leffe-enthousiast may enjoy.

I live on the countryside, about 3000 people in my little town. We don't have a bakery, but we do have a brewery Very Happy

So yeah.. we Belgians know our priorities!

On another note, worst beer? I'd go with Fosters. So bad i'm not even sure i'd serve it to a lad.

Thanks for that list Caligula! It will probably be pretty tough finding some of those but it will be a mission. I do preffer blond/amber most of the time but I'll tip back a stout from time to time if I'm only drinking not eating. That's my only gripe with them I feel like I drank a loaf of bread with every bottle.

I'll try to find the honey due as well.

I do like Czech beer but we only have this easy to find besides Pilsner Urquell

Edit Worst beers.. Sorry for those down under but I have to agree about Fosters. Below is one some jack waggon brought to a poker party and left in my fridge. It seemed a little unhetero to me but like I said I'll try almost anything once. This probably the only beer I could not finish in my life. It has to really be fermented piss.

Leffe is a beer made for the general public so the taste is a bit neutral (for that segment, of course). The ones I listed vary from general to very specific so some flavors might be not for you. Either way, they're worth trying.

Oh yuck. I tried that Apricot crap about 5 years ago. It tasted like soap mixed with piss.

I miss Fat Tire, aka the alcoholic big gulp. 312 and Goose Island are also favorites of mine.

I've tried a few of the micro-brews here in the Cali. None of them can hold a candle to the beers of the Midwest.

For now we have over 1200 different kinds of beer and probably 10% of them can be compared with piss - some urine drinkers here Shocked

Started my drinking career off in 1976 with this. 23p a pint in the Royal Exchange in Enville. Top pint, only 3.5% abv and a top session drink.

For all you haters saying "American" beer sucks, I'm assuming you are talking about the industrial garbage that the sheep here like to drink while they are living vicariously through people they watch on TV...

...because if you are including American craft beers in there, perhaps you could answer me a question...

Why are American craft breweries (especially the ones in my area) kicking your ass every year in international competitions like World Beer Cup?

Also, why is San Diego, CA becoming well known as the craft brewing capital of the world?

Hell, I'll put my own homebrews up against much of that "Eur-in" people like to call beer (Stella? Please. European Budweiser, like Heineken.)

The brewing world has moved on. Get used to it. Adapt, or get out of the way.

@PantzOnFya I think when we say American beer is crap, we are meaning the mass produced beer.

I have been to some nice micro-breweries and the various craft beers are excellent.

Having said that, I try to buy bottle craft beer made in the states HOWEVER, there is one made in "The Kill" (Mississippi)** and it is plum awful. It is brewed by Lazy Magnolia and it is supposed to be a spiced ale. It is called "Indian Summer" and it is the first they have brewed...........Yuck, they need lessons from a brewmaster.

**The city is actually "Kiln" but we all call it the Kill - it is the hometown of Brett Favre (former Green Bay Packers QB)

I agree with Bravo. There are American beers that taste like water (but are drinkable nonetheless) but there are good ones too. And they don't have to be from micro breweries. I had a few Boston lager and Samuel Adams just the other day. There were nothing wrong with them.

Generic Pilsners are the worst. I remember trying a Miller Chill...tasted like whole wheat noodles in lemon juice!

That's a winter brew though. I have also acquired a liking for the IPAs. Magic Hat Brewing company being among a favored producer. Summer's here No.9 and Wacko are coming out soon, if not already.
