It's springtime in Oklahoma and we have tornadoes on the ground..Gary England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_England) is in his element...

I imagine it would be pretty hard/pricy for insurance in those areas

I hope you're still safe this morning justcold! They put us back on the Tornado warning late last night but it was mostly rain. I'm glad I sold all of my other property here. That insurance is pretty pricey.

EDIT: I see the Woodward twister on the news right now. It touched down in a remote area but the winds and hail pretty well tore things up in town. That was exactly 65 years after the tornado that started in Texas and went all the way through Woodward. That one was 2 miles wide.

Very pricey, even if you are able to get it. In our area we have to pay dearly for Windstorm coverage and then there is flood insurance. TV public service ads will tell you that for as little as $100 you can buy flood insurance.......try $900 USD per year! Then another $500-700 per year for Windstorm Insurance and then you have your regular household insurance.

My backyard is in the flood zone, but my house isn't, but they still want $900+ for it to cover the house.

We got hit pretty hard in my neck of the woods last week. The twisters caused a half a billion worth of damage but no deaths thankfully.

When I moved from Texas to Ohio (also an area that gets the occasional twister) my homeowners rates dropped by more than half.

My wife is from hurricane-prone south Louisiana and homeowners there would kill for those rates. They are really outrageous in parts of Florida. And they usually don't cover water damage -- that is extra.

I hide in the closet, dog and cat in tow. 'Course when the sirens go off, I have to go look, but mostly, I hide in the closet. I yell a lot, too. As in, WHAT I CAN'T HEAR BECAUSE YOU'RE BARKING....

My kingdom for a basement or cellar. Truly.

^^ I, too, would love to have a basement like we did in Michigan and Ohio. But being along the Gulf Coast with the water table what it is, I guess that is impossible.

This year the insurance companies are letting me pay in installments rather than over $2,000 in one payment. Isn't that nice of them! Rolling Eyes
