As 2011 draws to a close we find ourselves reflecting on another good year for baiters and yet another problem year for the scammers. Thanks to all the hard work put in by our members.

For 2012 and beyond I would like to appeal to all of our members to help spread the word about 419eater and Scamwarners.com. The more people that know about what we do the better chance we have of doing more damage to scammers and helping more victims.

Let's make 2012 the year that we really get the word out about us. Whenever you get an opportunity please write about us, put our links down on various forums, tell others your stories or back link to some good baits here on Eater. Every bit helps. If ONE victim sees your link to Scamwarners and we are able to save them from further victimization then all of it is worth it.

If every member on eater can put up a link or short story about Eater or Scamwarners on a weekly basis, we will more than double our readership over the next twelve months. Here are the current stats for Eater and Scamwarners.com as of the 29th Dec. If you are prepared to get involved and help us spread the word let us know in this thread. (No Spamming of course) I will continue to report on how we are doing on a monthly basis. Between the lot of us I'm quite sure we can make a difference.

I've got an account on moneysavingexpert.com which is a large UK money saving and consumer rights site.

I'm not allowed to post links on there at the moment, as I haven't made sufficient posts but I've made a few mentions of Eater and ScamWarners and will continue to do so when the right subject comes up.

Once you have written a paragraph about us - or posted a link to 419Eater.com or scamwarners.com - Please let us know in this thread. There might be a small reward for members who rack up the most links and or articles. Wink

I did send a link to both sites to the reporter(?) that posted a story about hitman007. I don't know if that will ever come out in that paper though.

I've got a couple websites I should be able to post info up (links) about Eater and Scamwarners and a local library has been in touch with me about doing more presentations (based on the info Irishimmigrant sent to me)

I've moved the +1 button to each topic rather than a site specific button (the post specific option seems to be the norm) I believe that the +1 button will help spread the word. So if you like a post simply +1 it.

While I was about it - I added a Tweet Button too. I'm not particularly happy with the button placement at the moment, but in the meant time we do have them. So please Tweet and Google +1 to your hearts content.

Great idea, Sis Gomer just +1 on Gmail, but I'm worried about the tweet.
When I test tweeted it defaulted to my RL account, is this what it's meant to do or am I being paranoid?
I noticed that you could +1 on threads behind the login, does that make them google searchable?

Even if it defaults to your RL account - there is no link between who you are on eater and you RL info. You could just be someone who tweets about eater.

If this worries you then simply create a new twitter account.

Is a Facebook like button an option to add to posts? I don't tweet and I haven't logged into Google plus since I signed up, but I use FB a lot.

Someone I know on another forum, whose father is a Serbian artist who sells online, got a scam email purporting to buy an artwork. Others pointed out oddities in the English wording. I sent her a link to SW, told her about Eater, and analyzed the headers to prove that the email didn't come from where the purporting buyer said he was. She posted this on SW: http://scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30018 . The link is behind a login on the other forum, but if you know what SMT, WO, BSL, and 1cCiii mean, I'd be happy to PM it to you.
