almost scammed

I have been talkingto a guy online for a few months now.i was talking to him about thing in general. My daughter has mitochondrial metabolic disorder and i recomended he visit UMDF.ORG and make a donation if he wished. He replied to my message saying he'd like to send her a gift. Claiming his wife died in child birth and now his daughter is being cared for by his mother. He said he felt bad that his daughter has no mother and would love to donate in my name. Like a fool i sent him my address and we continued chatting. He said originally he would send$ 500. Last thursday he messaged me from a different a different email saying he sent a check for$ 2900 and watch for ups.a few hours later i received a ups delivery sent from texas address. The check was for a different amount than he said.he messaged me back and confirmed the ups delivery and instructed me to cash it asap! And send$ 1600 to him in nigeria stating hes working there and cant get his pay from last contractors job in us cashed in nigeria because exchange rate is so different. The check was issued on a university of n.j. account and i was immediately suspicious. I never tried cashing the check cuz i knew it was a scam. What should i do? I don't want drama up in my house. Didn't want to call the cops. But i want this guy to be slowed down if not stopped! Anyone want to scambait him?

He looked me up myspace,and his name is kevin moore. He uses the name wise2snow on yahoo ill look up his other info and try to send it to you but iv never used this site before.and im definately not tech smart.lol

Welcome to this board! I am glad you found us before your life was severely affected! He has your personal information, DROP ANY AND ALL CONTACT WITH HIM! If you have his first email and headers I think we can cause him some frustrations?

Ok folks,sorry i read up onhow to get his headers and cant help,i only use my phone to check email. Not all menu options are available i.e.headers not available. But i did check thru my messages and his other email he uses is :[email protected]. he also sent sms messages from 92466502 and he called me several times from a nigeria number but i never answered. I can try to get access to a p.c. but mine crashed a few weeks ago. I hope its got nothing to do with this b.s. ! That would make me furious!

I also have the address he wanted me to western union the money im not sure if that'd be helpful as iv read scammers typically use false addresses and change names and email accounts quickly or use multiple. Names and accounts

Is there anything that can be done? I wish i could nail him! If i woulda tried cashing that check i could have had problems. I kinda want to let the university know they could be victimized but then again i don't want the drama of getting police involved

Oh! This fool is leaving me voicemails claiming to be bank offical in nigeria, and wanting to discuss why i wont cash check or send$ ! I told him my bank wouldn't accept it and there's nothing i can do except return the check. Any suggestions? I doubt this guys going to leave me alone! Im considering moving, just so i know im safe can i block his calls? I just don't want to be bothered by him. I wish id never even spoke to him in the first place!

I would let him know you went to cash the check again. the bank held you for questioning and called the police. You now have to go to court on fraud charges and they want to speak to him.
he should dissappear very quickly.

or just ignore him. He may start getting nasty/threatening in his manner but just ignore it and he will move on.

maybe once you get his header etc on here he will be too busy anyway

that being said you may also want to go over to our sister site scamwarners.com and post this over there. It will also help others who may be on their way to being scammed in a similar way or by the same person.

You should be able to have him blocked. After a while, he'll just forget you ever existed. You can also block mail from his address, as well.

We all make mistakes, so don't beat yourself up for talking to him at first. That's why us baiters exist, many of us were either victims of fraud or nearly victims of these guys.

I would also highly recommend visiting our sister site: www.scamwarners.com, they have great folks there to help you through getting rid of this creep and getting the word out about him so another person doesn't fall victim.

Biggirl, I like your idea of alerting the Univeristy as well. It couldn't hurt.

We will do what we can with what you have provided. Is it possible to get the Nigerian number the lad keeps using to contact you PM'd to me? We don't like to post those in the open.
