Ever heard of Ahmat Barkai Animi?
Didn't think so, he is currently the Chadian minister of tourism and he doesn't have that much to do right now. Well he is the minister of development too so that pretty much fills his table. But as far as the tourism go he is not doing his job. And that is perhaps not strange as trying to get tourists to Chad is, i imagine like trying to sell "Yes we can" t-shirts on a Nazi congress. And that is even when disregarding the whole timeline issue. It's a demand/supply thing, well more demand than supply thing actually seeing as there aren’t any. The abysmal Chadian infrastructure, his development workload makes sure that he hasn’t gotten many tourists to Chad the last few years. And that makes me certain that I have recently gotten more persons to go to Chad than he has. Ok granted that these aren’t what one would call money making tourists as they rather leech of other people than go to a hotel. But it also in effect makes me (and my partner in crime) the Chadian minister of tourism which is kind of cool.
And yesterday another eager tourist landed in N’Djamena to see what Chad has to offer. Meet Mr Bassey. He is the guyman to Mr Adams and he is like many other, going to Chad to look for gold in the TW*T. Yesterday, the big payday for our lad started off well. He is from Ivory Coast and called me from his first leg of the safari at noon, from Togo on a Togo number and thus confirming the safari. He later called form Douala from his regular number. So at 9ish he landed and then the phone began to ring. Thing is that between my schoolwork, the other idiot in Chad, and my Nigerian spy lad I have little time to do this shit right now. And for those of you that haven’t had a lad on safari I can tell you this, it takes time and commitment. Same thing with my friends that I usually work with, busy. So I had to give him away.
Now, the “handing over” bit came very suddenly and I had new chance to introduce the new church official to the lads before the safari, which I would have liked. So it all came very suddenly for our lads. And this might prove to be a problem and if that is the case I have to take that upon myself. And a second factor is that lad is really, really, really stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is actually legally retarded.
First call explaining to the lad why I can’t meet him. I did perhaps go to fast for him but I think he got it in the end.

Second call he had arrived at the hotel (hint he didn’t end up sleeping there) and I explained to him that he need to get in touch with my replacement.

Third call, well this only proves how incredible stupid the lad is. I tried to get him to switch his Ivorian phone on so that we could call him. This because my cobaiters spype wouldn’t connect with his Chadian number. Perhaps my explanation wasn’t top notch but in my defense, he more stupid than a brick wall. I ended giving up on him.

Now I do hope that this lad will move further and usually they will once in N’Djamena. But this is a special case, first he has to cross borders as he isn’t taking the regular route to Abeche and is instead heading for Nigeria. Secondly the transition between baiters came suddenly and was not properly prepared. Thirdly he is so stupid that he might not understand what is going on. |

Isn't that the case normally? |

This is so true. Until I safaried a lad, I had no idea how much daily time and effort is put into getting them to travel and then stay traveling.
Nice job, Dr. Mike! Congrats on another traveling lad! |

Some lads are very adaptable and resourceful whereas some are... well they don't react very well to changes. This is one of those lads, and add a pinch of extreme stupidity and you have Mr Bassey. I had this plan that i could give him away to The Monsignor as an early Christmas present. But due to a sloppy delivery and a "special" lad things aren't quite working out.
Bad news:
- Lad is blankly refusing to go to Nigeria or leave his nice floor at his taxi driver without upfront payment.
- Lad is very suspicious of us and have called me a joker on several occasions. In the call i will post below. It is long but there is much lad anger. Sadly i forgot to record the first few minutes.
Good news:
-Lad is stuck in N'Djamena for 8 fucking days which is ample time to reconsider his situation, after all over $100,000

يجب على اللاعبين على طاعة اسيادهم أخي
Sadly enough this lad may be lost to us. A few days ago The Monsignor and I made a lengthy call to the oga explaining to him how and why the lad needed to go to Nigeria to meet us. Also we gave him the simple math weighing the cost of 8 days in N'Djamena against a 50 mile trip to Maiduguri. The latter is way more cheap, but he would hear nothing about it. We figured that he may change his mind as many lads on safari go through that phase. From blank refusal to another leg of his safari. And he still may. But he have had some time to o this and I may have to face the fact that he is never going. A big disappointment for me if so. I so wanted to deliver him to The Monsignor.
One reason may be that the lad in Chad is scared shitless of northern Nigeria, and rightly so. For a christian lad Maiduguri, Bauchi and Kano are dangerous places. And frankly speaking, that is why they make such good destinations.
ETA: TM, i have the same intel as you. But as far as i have been able to interpret it, 8 days seem most likely. |
