@TM - that's what prepaid visa cards are for.

@MLF ... wait, those initials didn't quite come out right.... - I wonder if you can use the credit towards purchases like calling plans and inbound phone numbers? That would be useful.

^^^ Being bored at a checkout counter, I picked up one of those prepaid Visa cards and read the back. It appears that you are still supposed to give identification information. I was wondering though if they verified it.

You only need ID for reloadable debit cards. The company that issues you a card with your name on it is responsible for the ID thing. The cards that are loaded once (a gift card) can be registered in any name you want. You don' have to register it at all if you don't want too. It might not work for internet purchases unless you do though. That's how it works where I am from at least.

No one here has received a prepaid Visa card for Christmas or whatever? It wouldn't make any sense to require ID to buy a gift card. Anyway, yes you can give your information when or if you register it and no they don't check it. How can they? You register for it the same way you sign up for an Email addy.

I got a prepaid Visa card one year at a Christmas party, and all I had to do was register/activate the card online through Visa so that if I lost the card I could notify them and have a new card issued (but if someone uses the card before you call them to report it lost/stolen, you're out of luck).

If you use paypal, you have to give RL information, and a lot more of it... very few people have the time or resources to set up a complex identity including an anonymous drop box, a reloadable visa card, and a skype account all with fake details. I did it once, just to see if it could be done. But, someone with a court order or LEO contacts could still trace you. Nothing is truly anonymous in our society anymore. I suggested the reloadable visa card in lieu of a real credit card, for fraud prevention purposes not anonymity. Smile
