I know that here at Eater, we are not to send fake IDs to the lads. We all understand why that is. We do not want the lads recycling the IDs and using them against victims. One thing that I have done before though, was to send very menial IDs. For example, "International Dust Bunny Hunting Club," or "Guild of Rice Cracker Connoisseurs".

I've had one request I instead send a driver's license or passport but I explained that my license was suspended due to points and that I do not have a passport. He then accepted the ID.

Your average person will hopefully not be fooled with this type of ridiculous ID. Also, we all know what happens when a lad tries their hand at photo-chopping. It'll only make the situation worse. My photoshopping skills are such that I can make an ID look real enough to not be questioned. Again, I've done it before with stupid, menial IDs.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I stop making, "Certified Cat Personal Trainer," cards?

The problem with that is that not all scam victims are fluent in English.As silly as it may look to you or me,it may convince someone who is not familiar with the language.
I know how you feel,when I first started I made a wonderful,ridiculous ID with the picture of a well known porn star on it.Shame I never got to use it.

If you do a google image search for id card and set the criteria to Strict, it returns 132,000,000 results. Shocked

It's easy enough for lads to find id. There's no need to make it any easier than it already is. The standard excuses seem to work so why change it? Confused

I have only had a handful of lads drop me because I won't send an ID. On the other hand I've seen several victims scammed over at Scamwarners with what most people would think is a completely idiotic scam attempt.

If it's good enough to fool a lad it's good enough to fool an elderly non-English speaking victim new to the Internet. There's no need to help them scam Smile

Yes, stop making them and stop sending them. Spend a week reading every post over on SW and you won't even have to ask this question again.

Like Bravo said, if it fools a lad, it will fool a victim.

WindyPops I do it as a way to gain the lad's trust. As Doc stated, scammers can do an image search and get endless results for IDs. I don't believe that I'm acting as a "supplier" for something that they can get so easily without effort. I make a realistic looking ID. They can actually get a real ID picture. The big difference with getting it from me is that, they're getting something completely ridiculous and worthless.

Even without getting an ID from me, they will get one from somewhere. If they feel the need to, they will get an ID to send to a victim. With that said, I think that it is better if they use mine. With mine, there is a greater chance that the potential victim will question the relevance of a Cat Fancier's Membership for an International Bank Transfer.

It really isn't the humor factor for me. I think it's the little things that hook the lads and keep them coming back for more punishment. I have a lad that I dropped a few weeks ago crawling back to me. Because of the trust he has in my character, he believes that I have send thousands of dollars to him (only to be chopped).

I do respect the protocols of this board and I try my best to abide by them. I'm not trying to be a baiting rebel or anything. I was just gauging how people felt about this practice. If anything, it can be compared to sending fake transfer slips. Lads can recycle those things too if they are crafty enough.

The difference between sending a lad an ID and a westie slip is the lad would have to chop the westie slip to make it relevant to his victim. Assuming he is pretending to send the victim money or something. He would have to do this with every victim. Lads are lazy they are not going to do that.

With an ID they just have to assume the identity and send it to all their victims. It's true there are tons of places the lads can get ID including victims but the whole point is we don't help them scam in any way. I do understand the point your trying to make about de-education but it goes right back to the fact it can still fool a victim and we don't help lads.

The consensus of the board for a long time now has been that sending them any type of ID is a bad idea. Sometimes, ya just have to agree to disagree. Personally? I find it a lot more interesting to send them a copy of the largest DLL file I can find, renamed as "drivers-license.jpg." Lads are generally paying for either TIME or DATA DOWNLOADED in an internet cafe.... huge useless files burn that up either way Laughing

Good points all. Just to say, I don't immediately go to sending a fake ID. I have done the large damaged file thing. It generally works. There has only been a few instances where the lad would just not let up no matter what. Instead of letting the lad walk, I caved in and gave them what they wanted (kinda).

But yeah, I'll go with the consensus on this and avoid it as much as possible. Besides, it takes some valuable time to create those IDs. I don't want to work harder than the lad! It's already a practice of mine to avoid that route as much as possible.

I do understand what you were thinking here GREC. I had the very same thought for that until I started reading the opinions on things like this. I have, somewhere in all this mess, an OMIAS membership card. No personal picture, no name, only a cartoonish looking *DELETED* guy with pants on. I thought that would be great.

^^That is actually one of my favorites I use something similar. Having a lad trying to explain how to scan my passport can take a week. Not to mention I can almost feel the lads blood pressure boiling over. After a week or so of him explaining and me screwing up the lad skips right past it.

Fowan Nyne I get your point. However, I would argue that it's not a matter of being in an English speaker for that document. I'd say that's also a matter of being legally blind as well... Razz

Pastor Frank, That image has been saved to my baiting folder. I recently found another site that was linked on this board. It contained many other deformed images of IDs. I saved those as well. I guess now, when the lad insists on me sending my ID despite my broken scanner, they'll get what's coming to them.

next victim, Yeah, there are still a few policies that I wonder about at times. Even though I'm sure all of this has been raised here countless times, I always raise it again just to see if the temperature of the water is still the same. This board is Rome and I'm just trying to make sure that I'm doing as the Romans do.

GoRideEmCowboy, I can see your point: to you, me, and I would imagine the majority of users on this board, we'd find such ID ridiculous and completely unbelievable. However, on the off-chance that a potential victim could become a real victim with the aid of such "ridiculous" ID - just enough to push them into believing the scam - would you like to know that you'd aided a scammer relieve a victim of their money?

I have been tempted to create a silly fake ID to use in baits, but never went through on it. So I can definitely understand where you're coming from GoRideEmCowboy.

Despite the seemingly common believe that lads are impressively lazy, I don't think we can dismiss the idea of an ambitious one getting a goofy fake ID (or any document/file for that matter) and salvaging pieces from it for his own purposes. I mean, just look at that embarrassment of a rental agreement form. If a lad were to get his hands on a goofy fake ID, but it just happened to have a nifty looking logo or something, all he would have to do is put the ID into Paint, copy, and paste it into his Word document. A piece from any kind of halfway decent looking ID would be an upgrade over that comical form.
