New Series BBC 1 09:15-10:00 Monday
New Series. 1/10 Romance Scam: Matt meets a woman whose online date turned out to be a ruthless conman.

Good that there is more of this on mainstream T.V. Might get into the heads of the overly trusting masses that get scammed in this way.

If 'anyone' you have never physically met asks you for money, and tries to make it a point of trust. Then don't ever talk to them again.
If you were to meet a stranger on the street and they asked you for £1000, you would say 'fuck off', so why do it online.

Thank you wowwow - I don't tend to look at the early day TV listings; I've just put the rest of the series on my TV Planner.

damn missed it, thank god for iPlayer

would have been nice get it on Sky+ to show the family etc. - though the recent incident with daughter's guitar teacher has brought it home in RL

Doesn't work through proxy either - and I'm not an Apple man, so I have no idea how to download from Apple's iMonopoly service. Bugger. Sad

you will need the iPlayer desktop client - that manages storage / expiry etc

the file is MP4 but it has DRM so will only play using iPlayer

under Win7/x64 mine stores in
C:\Users\ADMIN\Videos\BBC iPlayer\repository

The 2nd episode discusses 419 scams about 2/3 of the way through the episode, but doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

One fraud expert mentions the commission percentage being from between 10-15%, however; I've seen as high as 40 from some scammers, with 20% seeming to be the average (in my experience). A minor detail, but then again it's for the BBC and therefore not a niche community like us at the Eater.

Yes it's a shame the police have such limited powers over these scumbags. I'm really fearing getting old now when these thugs target the elderly in this fashion.
I think there should be an episode that covers e-mail 419 scams coming up.
Maybe we should write to the producers.

^^^ Think they'll avoid email scams because they can't prosecute people in other countries.

Our lads are using false names, and operating outside their countries of residence. If you could get the evidence would the local police care since the victim is not a local?
