This past week or weekend, the details are still being figured out, a friend of mine's grandfather received an "urgent" phone call from a person claiming that his grandson, my friend, was in jail in Italy and if $10,000 was wired immediately, the "officer" that was on the phone could make the charges "go away."

Apparently such high pressure tactics were employed that an otherwise usually sensible man immediately came to what he thought was his grandsons aide and Western Unioned the money as instructed.

He died last night from 2 sizeable brain bleeds brought on by the stress of the phone call and finding out directly afterwards that he had been scammed and that his grandson was nowhere near Italy. Western Union has stated the money was picked up in Canada. Real close to Italy huh?

When I first started here with Eater, way back in 05 I think, it was because I laughed my ass off at some of the amazing stories that showed scammers being taught that we weren’t all helpless victims and truth be told, like everyone else, I wanted those trophy pics. In the ensuing years I have sometimes teamed up with other members here to add to the stories. As my siggy line shows, I have succeeded at least a little. Those stories and memories still make me laugh until my sides ache. In the last year or so though, I have been almost unseen around these parts due to some RL goings on but I quietly continue to do what I can do to take fake checks off the scammers hands and thus out of the innocent/unknowing publics hands. Last night, being told that my friends grandfather had died . . . and make no mistake it was just as if these a$$holes had robbed him on the street and shot him as they were leaving, has again reinforced my reasoning for coughing up my membership donation every year and believing in EVERYTHING we do here at the Eater.

I will try harder this year in my friends grandfather's memory to hurt the bad guys in any way I can, from educating the public, taking more checks off the street, or doing my level best to drive them to a war zone where hopefully these bast@%^s and their like are fell upon by evil doers and in the end meet the same fate they caused this elderly gentleman, because no one deserves to be robbed by these thieves, let alone to be murdered by them.

My friend called me as soon as his grandfather told him what had happened to get some direction in what to do . . . its a helpless feeling Slap Confused

Try and get as much info as you can. The Western Union details, exact pick up location, any names, phone numbers, or email addresses and pm it to a mod.

If we ever get complacent in our baiting or ever feel that the lads are bordering on being functioning human beings, it's stories like yours that remind us that we're dealing with the lowest form of human life. Scum.

My condolences to your friend's family, Justice...it's a terrible story. And to think a couple of days ago I was beginning to form the view that my latest lad might be legit. Your story has renewed my desire to go after this pond life mercilessly.

I've read quite a lot about this pressure tactics (mostly based around marketing) so I know how it can make completely reasonable man do things he later regrets.
