the oldest thing I can remember is a small computer that had green letters on a black screen, like the matric, somewhere around the mid 90's

The oldest machines i used were all at school, bbc acorns etc etc where the floppy disc was literally floppy or they used tapes to load the data.

As long as we are on the subject,remember 300baud modems?You could read the text about as fast as it came onto the screen.

Yep, had a 300 baud modem and was ecstatic when I bought a 1200 baud modem. We had a Radio Shack Tandy TL 1000 with no HD (as it would have cost $500). Since we had no HD, the my children would play games with floppy discs -- take one out, put the next one in, take that out, etc.

And we used Prodigy software.

If you were on a BBS (Bulletin Board) only one person at a time could be on the board not like many people being on a forum today. You had a re-dialer that would keep dialing until you did not get the busy tone and logged on.

Oh, and Radio Shack had a deal on a dot matrix printer that we used for years and one daughter took it off to college and used it whilst others were using ink jet printers. But it got the job done.

During my time in the Air Force (1970s) we leased all of our ADP equipment from IBM, who also provided on site support. This was mainly the 7090 series processors and 1400 series compilers and later the 360 processors. Storage space was $10,000 a megabyte back then. So the unit in the ad offers storage capacity at about 4% of that. Such a bargain.

And those punch cards were everywhere. Not only did they have to be punched, they had to be run through a verifier afterward.
