What would happen to people that actually fly over to ghana

I am sure some person has fallen for the scam where they want you to fly over there and meet them to collect your inheritance ect ect. What happens to these people?

How does the scam work on the lads part when this actually happens? Anyone know?

If I'm not mistaken, they get robbed, kidnapped or killed! Which is why we all stay far far away from them.

It wouldnt be pleasant, most likely kidnapped, then killed. Never travel.

I know many people have tried to go visit their lads. Sadly, no one has ever been successful in meeting them. Often times, they'll miss their planes and inconvenience the lad who was trying to meet them. Other times, their planes would be diverted and they would be left streadded in a foreign land, forcing their lads to cross borders to pick them up. Some were even lost or somehow ended up getting injured or killed before ever meeting up with the lads.

I guess we here will never know first hand what happens... Sad

But I think the original poster was wondering what would happen if a victim really did travel to meet the scammer. Scammers are criminals. Criminals do bad things, sometimes VERY bad things. Bait safely!

It depends on the lad and the victim. If the lad is an upper-level guyman or works with a successful gang, and the victim has shown that he has access to significant money, lads will often put on a full-bore show for the victim: airport pickup, taken to a fancy office, shown a briefcase full of cash, etc.

The really successful lads mostly work in gangs and the bosses ("oga") can use a victim visit to sink a hook deeper than they could by email and phone. Victims have been known to return home so completely convinced that they've gotten friends and family hooked, embezzled from employers, or anything else they could do to keep the fantasy going.

But the risk of kidnap, robbery, and possibly death is very real.

There's no one size-fits-all scenario. There are lots of variables.

Someone I have met and worked with and considered a little hot headed but not a fool made the trip in the eighties. Not to Ghana but Nigeria.
He was held for a while, lost all his money and is grateful that he got away alive.

Another person that I have spoken with, made a similar trip and was well looked after. This person had parted with $40k but the scammers expected another $150k so was sent home having been briefed with a format designed to extract more money. Sad

Though some people see lads as sort goofy and dopey, they are not, you may escape mugu land and only lose money, but why risk it?

I have read of people who went to, say, the real Lagos air ministry and met a uniformed official in an office, in such a corrupt society you can hire most anything for the day.

Another common 'face to face' scam is the wash wash, where your trunkbox is opened, and turns out to be full of 'money' dyed black - you then have to stump up cash for chemicals to clean it all. Once you are out of money, of course, you may be a likely kidnap victim, so nothing good ever comes out of these visits.

I'd be curious how gold lads pull off a visit of a mark...
It's all very well to hook a mark with pictures of 'gold dust' a.k.a. sand, but to actually get a victim out there with ££££ on them is a different ball game.

I've just run a bait on a Ghana gold lad where I managed to get him on the road to Benin chasing after my kidnapped character who happened to have £140K on him.
Quite how this lad was going to separate the cash from my character when out of his confort zone I don't know.
He was operating alone (certainly in Benin, anyway), and I never had any other emails from another lad throughout the bait.

I'm guessing there would have been some kind of 'stay here in this hotel while I go and get my boss' and then the lad legs it with the £££.

People have gone over to Africa and come back alive, albeit financially crippled. Some have been kidnapped and subsequently released; some unfortunately killed. Although it's been mentioned in this thread, I'm sure we're all familiar with the story about George Makronalli, the Greek man who travelled to South Africa and met a gruesome fate.

Some scammers may just be petty, spineless thieves. However, it's evident that some are ruthless criminals with no morals or humility whatsoever. It would be insane for a real victim (or anybody) to travel to a foreign country to meet complete strangers.
