Trapping a lad through Moneygram....Could this work ?

Hi there fellow baiters.

I was having a think the other day about this and just wanted to know if this is possible. With a Moneygram lad , they have to physically go to the outlet to collect their cash . Is it possible to alert Moneygram of a specific MTCN number , say 86423175 or whatever , that could be flagged in their system as one being used by a lad ?

Eg. We give the lad a fake MTCN number. We alert Moneygram that this number is being used by a scammer to collect Money , supply evidence of emails/correspondence to back it up. He walks into Moneygram to collect and the MTCN number alerts the Moneygram teller that this guy is a scammer. They call the police and catch the f*cker. Surely this could be arranged ?

It almost seems the Nigerian Government isn't hugely keen at all to stop these guys as it is a billion dollar cash injection to the economy every year. Just a thought guys , but wondering if it is at all possible.

Yeah it would be possible, but it would only work if it was a sting by LE.

I will grant maybe LE in Nigeria has issues, every department does.

But you also have to consider the size of some of the syndicates involved. Why take out one person who only emails out scripts, when he/she can easily be replaced? It would be more effective to have a major blow against a syndicate. This is A LOT Harder, we have players who are far from stupid, and very well connected.

I feel the baiting community could aid (baiting, warning, site killing) in this, if we harass, interfere, and etc. this could weaken the foot soldiers in these syndicates. By causing higher turnover, and or costing money.

IMHO the only way this would work is if it was a collaborating bait with many pros involved.

You need West African LE to work with baiters, you need to know where the lad is cashing it, you need MG to work with you and one or two highly impossible things more.
This could work with a lad in europe but even there you need evidence before LE would move only one finger.
There is a reason that badges are rare in the siglines and most badges you are seeing are for the same lad as far as I know... gives a slight idea of how much baiting power was together to arrest only one.

With contacts to a bank and somebody working for the bank who could call the police because of money laundering (the only thing the bank can the lad accuse of) would have better chances to work... now you should start to make friends with bankers in West Africa Wink

The lad that does the errand to the MG office may only be the errand boy. Although he can lead authorities to the Oga.
Just doing the pickup is possibly not enough for an arrest. It may still be worth a try. You would have to connect with the right cop. Many are corrupt and this is what complicates the issue.

The problem with globalised criminal gangs is working out which bit of there chain your seeing.

its possible but takes a hell of a lot of planning, could take Years to gather enough to ident a whole group of lads.

what cops do around the globe is randomly raid internet cafe's where a whole bunch of ips come from, its still hit and miss.

in the uk police are sneaky Razz

they pretend to ignore the emails, but they dont just "ignore" them the ips and other header information is collected, and shared. its these ip ranges which help decide which places to target.
