Apparently accessing an existing FB profile from Africa triggers additional security checks. FB don't officially state why, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were to defend against phishing and "I got mugged please WU me money" scams.
I'm wondering how well it works, and if other services secretly do a similar thing? (Specifically targeting Africa, not just Google's "your account has been accessed from another country") |

Hmm, Google have just been asked by the Government in the UK to prevent fake banks and the like websites from being shown in the results when you use their search engine.
I wonder how they'll spot the fakes, aa419.org's database perhaps?
Are Government's finally getting something done about fraud, or the ISP's doing their 'duty'? |

This article seems a bit skewed and overblown to me. I have had trouble accessing my FB when I have traveled outside of my home state but still within the US. It can be a pain for certain but I don't think they are targeting African IPs (as the article is stating) as much as they are targeting logins where the IP changes. Otherwise, none of our lads would be on FB. |

it would be wrong to block access to any nation, remember lads only make up a tiny fraction of any nations criminal population, and even less of the overall population. |
