I've been to the island of Lamu not far from that resort a few years back. We didn't see any pirates but we did get told stories about Somalian raids in to Kenyan territories. We stayed in a smaller city so we were safe but in the bus ride up from Mombasa we had some additional protection. And when i say protection i mean a fully armed soldier with an automatic rifle riding with our bus. They take the safety serious there, And are well aware of the Somalian threat.
