some beginner questions

I'm new here, and just spent a few hours (and still reading, lol) familiarising myself with the site etc. I'm sure I'll stumble across the answer sooner or later, but if anyone can point me to (or explain) how a 'catcher' account/email works..? From what I understand, responses aren't sent from these?

So the scammers take the email addresses from the guestbook (catcher email addys?), but my presumption is that they're replied to from a different email address? Sorry if I sound a total novice:)

^^ Since the scammers send their formats to thousands of addys they have no clue who answers them.

Is it common to get other spam in a catcher account? I have a spamtrap that gets a variety of spam, including maybe 5% scams. Should I create a separate catcher? Should I write a PHP script to ignore the non-scam spams?

and its not necessary to have a catcher account since there´s and abundant supply of scummer mail already available , either check mail surplus or the link i got in this earlier thread

If you are finding those references in baits it is usually about them being a goat-herder or a goat-humper. It's an insult to them. I do not know what the goat in the siggy line is, but I believe it has something to do with getting the lad to pose with goats for pictures.

My catcher is a horrible mess due to years of spam (200 messages in the spam directory from the past two days), but it's still a good source of fresh new scam email on a regular basis as long as I'm willing to scan past all the junk ("You have changed your PayPal email address", "VIAGRA on sale at $1.38", "Your account has been suspended" etc).

I like goats and they like me, I don't think any more explanation is required on my part.

^^ The goat icon is issued by a certain mod and he never gives an explanation for it. It doesn't mean anything negative in most occasions though Laughing

Hi, I came back to this site after some time. I see scammers now trying new stuff every time. The new one for me is now they pose as US military men! I joined Lavalife yesterday and I had several military men IM'ing and thought it was odd and that's when I remembered you guys. I now have read some about military scams and I am very mad at some guy whom I just met and sent me his pictures. I guess he stole them from some real military man.MY question is where can i post this pictures, email, etc.? I did the heather thing and his IP is from Ghana!! arrgghhh!

I'm used to receiving the long drawn out tragic emails (from scammers) that I see reproduced here - but yesterday I received the more unusual three-liner scam-mail from 'Ellen Whipple' (ewhipple) saying I've got a significant amount of cash to be picked up from WU (and, by coincidence the 'return' email contains 'wu' Rolling Eyes

), and a phone number for enquiries and info.

Short and sweet....and everso slightly tempted.

Another question , how common is it really that scammers forwards you to an innocent third party ? in my current modality i offer them a finders fee if they get me in contact with a man willing to work for me and i let them know this said man will be responsible for handling large sums of cash and so on and
i know its not likely and all but is it extremely seldom this happens or pretty often maybe .

I've only baited for a week and I'm already getting swamped with all sorts of 419 mail, I can pick and choose what I like best. I reckon the guestbook trick worked like a charm. Wink
