Several parishes (counties) in Louisiana have issued evac orders as Lee heads up the Gulf Coast. The storm may turn into a Hurricane. Everywhere from where I live from Pascagoula to over to the Louisiana coast is preparing for this storm. About 1/2 of the oil rigs have been closed and evac'd

It is highly unlikely this storm will become a hurricane. It should dump an impressive amount of rain on portions of the gulf coast, though - including New Orleans.

Despite only maintaining 'tropical storm' status everyone should take proper precautions if they live in the area.

@bluth, The Weather Channel and our local weather said it may turn into a hurricane. The gusts out there are at 60-65 mph out in the area of the oil rigs now and only need to get to 74 mph to became a 'cane. Dauphin Island is being evac'd and all the MS barrier islands are closed down.

Right now my area is under a voluntary evac advisory. My property is in the flood plain zone. And our county is supplying sandbags but during Katrina the sandbags washed away like bugs being hosed down with a garden hose.

NOLA is already getting the beating. Several of the parishes there are already told to evac.

@skinner I would be delighted to send this rain your way. I understand it would help with those wildfires y'all are having

Stay safe Morgaine! I tried using a garden hose as a snorkel in a swimming pool. It doesn't work, so don't event try it! Wink

As I also said, check out the ridiculous rainfall amounts Lee is going to dump on coastal Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama over the next three days (yes, the forecast maximum is 19.25 inches).

A friend just posted a while ago that a tornado was headed for her house. Stay safe everyone! She posted a picture of her front yard. People were in boats already.

Just got back. The last 35 miles were awful of driving with the rain and the wind and water all over the roads. We now have new swimming pools surrounding the house. The power was off but is back on now, including the internet, which for our provider is absolutely amazing.
There were/are tornado warnings all over south Mississippi. I did see about 50-75 (lost count) of other states power companies headed toward Louisiana.

@beefcake That was one of the reports I also heard. With weather like this you cannot rule anything out. Many of us down here always prepare for the worst -- at least the smart ones do! Wink

I will continue to monitor on our radio (should the power go out again) because that damn weather cube I have is absolutely worthless. It comes on when there is NOTHING and when it should come on it doesn't.....and yes, it is programmed correctly.

@ParaNoid When I was down in da islands (USVI), I had trouble with a real snorkel, so doubt I will try the garden hose! Laughing

There is an ominous possibility that the mid-Atlantic could get a double whammy from Lee and Katia by next weekend.

Our thoughts are with you, Morgain as that thing just sits there. The heavy rain bands on radar look like they are locked in place.

After a very sleepless and restless night while it stormed and rained, we woke up to a nice sunny, but humid day.

I do wish we could have sent some of the rain to TX to put out the wildfires there.

^^^ The top reason I stay out of flooded areas (snakes!)

After Katrina where I lived in AL, the water was about 60 inches high -- and as we watched, you could see the snakes in the water and it also brought out other creepy things.

At an alligator farm in a neighboring state, all his alligators swam out because the water was higher than the fences he had. And here 'gators have been known to come out of the swamps and cross the road to another water venue.

He crossed the road to get away from the fire! It's been a stressful couple of days here. I have a packed bag by the front door in case of evacuation. The air smells like burnt tires and thousands of dried leaves. If I disappear for a bit, it's because I'm in a shelter. They've also opened one for pets, so my dog and cat will be OK. Horrific? Yes, I've been sleeping with my shoes on.

^^^ I was sure hoping that some of our rain could have been diverted to help getting the wildfires out. We have enough to share.

Some of the flooding has been absorbed by the ground, but when you walk on that ground it feels squishy and mushy.
