I remember a friend linking me to this site a while back and I learned a lot from it about scams. Now I decided to post here because in the last two days I have what I believe to be scammers trying to add me on Skype.

I've had a Skype account for a while and always leave the program running in the background while I am working. Yesterday someone requested to add me as a contact (I don't remember their name), but I don't add people I don't know, so I blocked them. Then today it happened again and the name was miss.mercy.johnson. So I Googled that name and what do you know, it's a name associated with a 419 scam letter.

I of course blocked them and reported them, but I wanted to let people here know that it seems that is another way scammers are trying to find victims. I'm sorry if this is old news, but I didn't see anything about it listed yet. It could be a good way to catch these guys or pull one over on them if someone just created a Skype account and left it running until a scammer adds them and then they can begin making that scammer pay. Unfortunately, this way of making first contact is quite popular with scammers. The reason you didn't find it listed here is that this site does not deal with scam warning. We have a sister site which gathers as much information as possible and tries to warn and help victims:
