But seriously, she's only had like... 100 or so sold copies that I know of. She's not a big time author, but she certainly isn't the worse out there.

I mean uh, yea, she's a big time award winning author! Sells millions!!

@next victim, the lads don't usually use letter designations. They just use Doctor or Engineer. and that is just fine.

I wouldn't want the to grasp and use the actual academic designations. Wink

Ahhhh but it could be fun to play with thim. "Wow! You are a doctor? My cousin is almost finished with college and will be a doctor soon. He is almost finished writing his Wenis, and when the Wenis is finished, he will have to stand before his teachers and defend it. After the Wenis Defense, he'll be a doctor, too."

Popularity has nothing to do with quality. Nobody considers Danielle Steele or Mickey Spillane literary icons.

I have the imagination, but I don't have the patience. Plus I'm not sure I want my imagination writ large for the world to see. Some things are best left alone!

'They' say you should write what you know. That's rather worrying, given the current wealth of vampire/werewolf/zombie books... Shocked

I had an article published in the now defunct Stanford Undergraduate Journal of History....
It presented the findings of some original research I conducted on the international response to the American annexation of Spanish territory in wake of the Spanish-American war.

I did mention West Africa, so it is connected to baiting in a way...

Two of them are still in print and available on Amazon and elsewhere. One is ranked at 1,038,077 at Amazon, the other at 2,031,788. Needless to say, they are wildly popular and have made me hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties. Rolling Eyes

Not to mention all the high-paid speaking engagements. Rolling Eyes

On the other hand, one of my out-of-print titles is now such a high-demand rarity that copies routinely sell for $200-$400 on eBay and rare book sites. I just looked and found five used copies; the cheapest is a mere $200, but one dealer is offering a copy at $1,025. And I'm not kidding. Shocked

But shipping is only $3.99. [/boasting]

My publisher has just sold back to me 400 copies of my own book for £50 as it was going to cost him more than that to keep them in storage! Laughing

Even if I sell them for 15p I'll make a profit!

Oh right, uh... she writes like, crime stories. Her last one is a horror like thing. I'm so good at plugging her books, ain't I? Laughing

She also writes screenplays, and is working on a book and screenplay based on a lynching in Ohio back in the 1800s. In fact, she's so involved with this thing that she's spent the last week in ohio researching it.

I'm working on a scambaiting book, which is about 40% finished. I doubt I would have bothered if ebooks didn't make it cheap and easy. I doubt there will be a dead tree version.
And I did have a magazine article published twenty years or so ago. I won't say any more as it was on a rather specialised subject that it might identify me.

A polished version of my Master's thesis was published by the now-defunct Hong Kong based journal Asian Profile.

And I still have three unpublished short stories from my undergraduate days.

Nope, you have it backwards: nothing but the facts, ma'am. I write about history.

I wish I could write fiction but I just don't have that skill. I have a friend who is a very prolific and well-known fiction writer. I envy his talent.
