Hi:
Prior to joining up a week or so ago, I was receiving maybe 1 or 2 scam emails a month.
After signing up to join the Forum, in the last week alone I have received 16 scam emails related to 419 scams!!!!! Perhaps the scammers are having a good laugh at the scambaiters and keeping us busy while they develop a new strategy?
Any comments from the more experienced among you? |

did you use any of your real life info to sign up here? make sure you bait with a Gmail account that has no ties back to you. sign up for a mentor and read the stickies and EaterU. I would suggest this thread be moved behind the log-in. |

Scammers aren't wasting their time targeting baiters. that's totally counterproductive. They want paying victims, not jokesters. If anything, the lads who occasionally wander by here are looking for new formats to use, stealing them from the Surplus forum. I banned one earlier today.
Chalk your sudden upswing to coincidence. It has nothing to do with lads targeting you because you signed up here. You're the last person they want to deal with, which is why you need to screw them over. |

The answer is no. Scammers would have no way of harvesting your addy unless you post it. If that is the case, they are just harvesting addys of the net not this forum in particular. |

Hey, thanks for the responses.
No, I do not have my email, true or false, on my registration or in any posts.
My Gmail account is a famous movie star and I followed the advice with no link back to me at all (I'm NOT a famous film star!)
I will chalk it up to coincidence. One good thing is that I will have no shortage selecting a target for a long time to come! |

Did you sign any guestbooks on the internet with this e-mail address? I think there's a sticky about it somewhere
If you did, it's completely allright, that's what attracts the scammer |

It's like when you buy a new car and suddenly you notice how many cars out there are the same make and model as your own. It's the same with scam emails. You're more aware of them since becoming interested in baiting. |
