A lad sends me victim info to help him mule funds. I contacted the victim and stated that the lad is a scammer. I get a call from this victim the next day. Questioning who I am and why I am trying to ruin the lad's integrity. This woman has a Canadian/American accent, sounded intelligent. I did not record the call with her, as she has a right to privacy (Lads don't. In my state, consent or notification is not needed to record phone calls.). So I can't provide a voice sample to see if anyone recognizes her. I got her email address and sent her transcripts of chats and emails with the lad and a recorded phone call of this lad.

Is this woman might actually be in a 419 gang? Is she in undercover law enforcement, trying to disrupt vigilantism by baiters? Or is she just so entangled in this lad's scam that she will believe whatever this lad says? She was suppose to be wire $40,000, so maybe that's it? I don't know, what to think.

Important: When you get real info on a victim - contact a Mod immediately! As you may have realized, many victims are emotionally very involved in the scam, and do not handle warnings very well....the Mods have the 'right' contacts and can see that the appropriate people receive the info to warn the victim.

I don't see any reason why would LE try to stop us. If they wanted to do so, Eater would be down a long time now. Wink

I second Bruin's post, if you have any victim info, including email communication with lad or real passport (or any other kind of ID) send them to mod immidiately.

I agree with the others on this. Contact a mod about it and they'll do what they can. If the victim still doesn't listen, then everything that we as baiters can do has been done. Or she is involved with the lads. Or she'll find out soon enough.

It's sad to say, but some people simply refuse to see the truth, especially if they're in financial trouble and are banking on the payment to save them.

Also sad to say that people are already in financial trouble, when they get scammed, are probably more likely to commit suicide or crimes of their own, I'm sure.

I hope the victim can be brought around so they don't get hurt, but if they refuse to listen there's not much else we can do that I know of.

THe mods are definitely more knowledgable on that matter than I am, though.

^ This. Call in the mods, it's harder than it looks. Info on victims is valuable stuff, so well done for squeezing it out of a lad. Just pipe it straight to the nearest mod, and they'll handle it.

Good job getting victim info from the scammer.

Dealing with victims can be pretty tricky, especially if it involves telephone contact. If you are not used to victim mentality, and haven't prepared a backup plan, it can easily backfire on you, and the situation you describe is not uncommon. It takes quite a while to really get to understand the victim side of things.

When you get victim info, please pass the info to me or to another mod. Pass on this one's info, and we will see if we can get her sorted out.

So I think you realize now you should pass on the infos to a mod. Laughing

I figured I would try to add a little about the victim mentality. I'm sure you have seen some of the amazing baits on eater like Hectors adventures as an example. You probably thought how the hell did the baiters get a lad to do that. Well that is the victim mentality in reverse. The lad is so entangled with the story the baiters created it is easier to believe the story than reality or what common sense should tell you. The lad has invested time and sometimes money and it has to be true. The alternative is uncomprehendable that he wasted all this time and went through all the trouble for nothing.

Same goes for a victim of a lad. It's easier to rationalize that the story from the lad is true than listen to a stranger telling them everything was a lie that they were tricked. Especially if the victim has already paid money as this one may have.

Hopefully with the help of the mods the victim will see the light. Great job on getting the info out of the lad that is no easy task!

@caveatscammer _ to answer your question. It's impossible to say if this is a lad or a victim without more information. Because it can be hard to tell the difference is why we let people with experience deal with warnings. She's not a UC cop though. Also, by more information I mean handing it of to an experienced warner. Good job getting the information out of the lad BTW.
