Me and Subway1 spoke to each other earlier today and spoke about Chad and safaris. First take a look at this video, it is very short.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahAuG1h7lcA
That is the main road between N'Djamena and Abeche. Two big cities in different part of Chad. As we spoke we drifted to discussing this video and the infrastructure in this part of the world.
And i was just about to say to Sub that this road is a nightmare, this because it is not a very good road and when traveling it in darkness it also provides the risk of getting hopelessly lost in the desert.
But i was cut short just before i could say these words by Sub who exclaimed "this road is like a dream". Not exactly was i was about to say as there are some subtle but important differences between a dream and a nightmare. But then again it is all about the point of view i suppose. For us this road is like a dream as it gives us an opportunity to send our lads on exciting safaris and adventures. And many a lads have traveled this very stretch of road on their way to eastern Chad.
For the lads however, that is something entirely different... |

Wow. It really puts some of those safari's in perspective. At worse I was picturing gravel or some form of desert-equivalent. That's no more a road as my footprints in the snow is a sidewalk.
No wonder lads refuse to walk them. |

Trying to stay on that track during a windstorm has got to be loads of fun. |

Bill, i don't know if you have been to Africa but you are quite right, it is a rather good road. Ok to call it good might bee seen as a stretch but African roads can be much worse than that one, In fact i have traveled on dirt roads so uneven that that they made me think our minibus would tip over. But i got used to the feeling after a few hours.
I do hope that this is the best part of the road for our lads sake. |

Where are the 'banits & thefs' they are always moaning about? Obviously they are just lying. I don't see any.
How do they construct such a road in a desert? Is it just beaten down by use or do they do something special to keep the ground/sand solid? (I tried googling but it only brought up bible quotes ) |

This road is fairly good actually. I've seen MUCH worse in Nigeria, Tanzania, Somalia and a few other countries. |

For baiters, it’s a dream to make lads cross that road ,and Dr Mike becomes specialist in that arena
Three lads went there; it was round trips and the worst part that they went back to N'Djamena at night. One of them was robbed off all his belongings. |
