Hi folks,

New here, only started looking this up because of a scammer trying to dupe me.

I have an ipod for sale on amazon marketplace and received this email:

Hello ,

How are you doing? hope you're fine. i just want to inform you that i went ahead to make payment for your item a short while ago and i have finished the procedure for the check-out and i believe amazon would notify you as soon as possible, am sending this item as a gift to my son and i don't want you to write the content on the package because it is expected to be a surprise gift, you may just write gift item on i.I have promised that i am going to surprise him on his birthday and i don't want to disappoint him this time when his birthday is around the corner. Please use international signed for priority handling delivery at the post office and here is the shipping address below...

Mr Steve Ayoola
12,Akinola Street
Ipaja
Lagos
23401
Nigeria

i will be awaiting your reply as soon as possible concerning postage details.

It was then followed up with an email that looked as if from amazon, but obviously no payment has been made. If the address wasnt in nigeria, i could have very well fell for this as the email from "amazon" looked very real, and not with the usual broken english etc.

So, does anyone have any ideas how i can waste this scammers time and prevent him doing this to someone else?

Any responses appreciated Smile

He has personal information about you. It is not wise (or safe) to bait him.

Just drop him and move on!

^ Yes

Suggest post in Surplus lads and let someone else madden him. Don't bother if he has any info on you.

IMHO it probably isn't wise to bait someone who tried to scam you. It is too personal and he may have your RL info.

If you want to bait scammers, create a non-RL email account with no RL info and go to Eater's Surplus Letters and select one or two to start straight baiting safely and sign up for a Mentor. Mentors are really nice people -- well most of the time <looking both ways>

Make sure you tell Amazon about it!

Try Gumtree instead ....
