It always got me that when they flew up to the mothership, to give them a computer virus, not only did they write it for the right OS (I presume the aliens were using Internet Explorer), they had the right compatible lead to plug in.

Absolutely! I'm a flag-waving Canadian, and I wish everyone in the USA a happy Independence Day and then some.

I've visited America countless times, and every time without exception I have encountered some of the friendliest and finest people in the world. They treat visitors like family, and most of them will bend over backwards to help a total stranger without expecting anything in return. If you haven't visited that country, you're missing out on the experience of a lifetime.

For most of us non Americans, it is just a normal day, nothing special. I've yet to see any kind of celebration, we don't have many Yank's in my area, a lot of canadians though, some of whom take the mick out of the americans Razz

But yeah, Um i cant really seem why it needs to be celebrated still, but happy 4th of july.

^^^For American children, Fourth of July is second only to Christmas in significance. In my childhood we would show pride in our country, appreciation of our institutions, and gratitude toward our Founding Fathers by discharging the noisiest, most powerful, and most destructive fireworks we could get our hands on.

Let it just suffice to say U.S. Independance brought about a lot of changes in the world that fine day in 1776. Not just for America.

I saw lots of fireworks and people buying them at my work and what not. Can't wait to hear all about the fires but it was raining ironically so maybe not by you never know.

I had a lovely quiet 4th at my folks place in Winnipeg! I love being in Canada for July 4! Laughing

I'm flying back home this afternoon and am sure that as there were in past years there will be plenty of bombs going off for the next few days...

In a nutshell what started off as a dispute about paying taxes soon escalated into a 'super power' conflict as the French then Spanish joined in giving material aid to the States and threatened to invade Britain . A treaty was signed giving the States independence then the Brits focused their attention back in Europe on France (and to some extent Spain).
Result:
The USA was born and (eventually) became the richest and most powerful nation in the world.
Britain gained a lot of territory off France elsewhere and expanded it's Empire after defeating Napoleon.
(Apparently the French were allowed to settle in a small part of Canada as we all love cheesey chips).

Thank you for all the good wishes for our Independence Day. We proudly fly our American flag at our house 24/7. And I still get chills when I see our flag and when they play our National Anthem, as hard as it is to sing, I still love it and what our forefathers did.

When I lived up north and went to hockey games, we loved singing both our national anthem and O Canada.
