@Stoney - I'm no whiz with email headers so I don't understand what you mean by:

There are a bunch of folks here that know everything there is to know about email headers, IPs, etc. I would suggest you post this question as a New Topic here in the Main Scambaiting forum. A lot more people will see your question that way. If you do that, someone will have an answer for you shortly I'm sure.

Hi everyone, like many others, I've been reading & learning, however before jumping into my first bait, I have been wondering if I should be using a proxy to sign up for a email account?
Couldn't find a relevant thread on this and am looking for a safe journey into Wild Africa.
Suggestions & Ideas always welcome.

Hi Stoney!
Welcome to Eater!
Gmail is a good choice as it strips your IP.

lol, Fartina (what next), I know I'm going to love it here.
One thing I've noticed with Gmail (I'm a user), is that it sends the domain that your are using when you have multiple accounts.
for example it doesn't strip the mailed-by:

from [email protected]
reply-to [email protected]
to [email protected]
date 20 June 2011 11:02
subject test
mailed-by xxxxxxxxxx.com

If I use this, It's only to easy for a lad to check the domain and games up.
any other suggestions?

As well if one clicks on "show original" the complete path is shown, hence my query about using a proxy for be completely hidden.
Any ideas?

Should serve your needs.

Though using a gmail or fastmail.fm account on its own should do just as well. One gives an ip in the States and the other in Australia. You'll be quite safe.

Unless you happen to live right next door to where their servers are that is. In which case you're in big trouble. Wink

Checking on email sent by another baiter who uses gmail, I put the info into the ipTracker and got
Quote:

No valid IP addresses could be found in the header you submitted.

When I clicked on show details I got

Quote:
from XXXXXXXXXX [email protected]
sender-time Sent at 1:58 PM (GMT-04:00). Current time there: 11:30 AM. ✆
to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX <[email protected]>

subject Re: another call
mailed-by gmail.com
signed-by gmail.com

So I am not sure what the problem would be. Most baiters' experience is that lad's don't check these things; finding the headers would be foreign to them IMHO
