The bit about the certificates matching those used in scams looks like a bit of a red flag.

Shouldn't be too long before it all goes pear-shaped.

Or are we just a bunch of cynics?

"certificates of legality", wtf are those anyway, and if they have already been flagged up as a scam-related document then the whole thing is, at best, going to collapse very badly.

There's not enough information in that story to get a sense of what's really going on.

If this woman was his "long lost" aunt, did his parents know who she was?
How did he get the money? If it's a cheque, why only partial payment? Many details are missing.

Yes, he has a lawyer helping him but how many lawyers (and other professionals) have we heard of who have given huge sums of money to 419 scammers themselves?

Whatever this is, it sounds weird. I can't think of too many 419ers who would transfer $800,000 into a victim's account. Unlike the fake money orders, which are usually for much smaller amounts, that kind of transfer is sure to draw heavy attention from several law enforcement offices.

There's a lot this story isn't telling us, but it definitely sounds fishy.

Millions inherited from a long-lost aunt in another country? I'm sure it's possible, but I'd want to know a whole lot of exact details before offering up my personal info.

My take on this is that the gleam in the eye of the young man had dollar signs on them and he asked nothing more.

There are many questions unanswered, such who exactly is this long-lost aunt? Was there actually a real aunt? Many families know their relatives and who has the $$$!

How exactly was he tracked down for this windfall?

Lawyers in Nashville TN? I worked in the legal community there and when you have lawyers with such nicknames as "Fast Eddie" there is concern about the lawyer who is helping.

If you recall the story about a law firm being scammed out of over $300,000, it is an easy stretch to the lawyer helping him being "taken in" also.

There are leaches (sorry, reputable companies) in the UK that track down long lost relatives in order suck 30% of the money (I mean locate the rightful heir) from Wills with no known decendants, but we're talking of sons of daughters of relatives.

I too, now smell fish...

Maybe this guy used his certificate and other lad-supplied documents as collateral to take out a loan. Every now and then a lad will do a pretty good job of fabricating realistic-looking documents. Even so, he would still have to find an especially boneheaded lender.

I wonder how the TV news people found out about this. Confused
