Bless me father...

Less than a week here, and I found out that I used to break one of the rules: I've burned lads before. A few of them.

I didn't know why I shouldn't. I thought it was funny, even though most of them (I haven't done many baits) didn't seem to care and just stopped replying. I even got one of them to talk to me again, although he basically just changed his format and was still trying to get money from me. I was young and didn't realize what I was doing.

Now that I've read through the stickies, well many of them, it makes sense. Prior to coming here, I thought baiting scammers was just a joke. Heck, at many sites that's all it is to them. This place is a little different though: Here, you guys have taken scambaiting to a whole new level.

So what's my penance? Do I have to mop the floors for a week?

Penance? Well it can be pretty severe, mopping floors is a light sentence. An average penalty is you have to clean the space next to all our computers.

The key question is did you really piss off the lads? If the answer is yes, then all is forgiven. We can forgive a lot as long as a lad has suffered.

Oh yes, my lads were all truly and totally pissed off. I made them wait weeks for their money transfers, and then made them wait some more. I only burned them after they truly realized I was playing them.

In RL business, all my scammers get burned in the end. But real-life scammers aren't like the 419 boys, so I can see the difference. I've had different scam artists arrested in RL (it's part of my job, not an online accomplishment), but I now see the difference. Most 419 scammers will never face the police, so it's best to leave them wondering what they did wrong instead of telling them how to perform better.

My boss thinks all scammers will see their day in court, but he's only talking about the ones we deal with at work. Maybe some day I'll show him this site. Not this week, but some day.

Just occasionally, one of us gets a lad arrested. It's very rare and quite an accomplishment. The chances are slim, being as they're (for example) a Nigerian, pretending to be Engish, attempting to swindle an Englishman who is pretending to be an American, using a borrowed computer linked to an Israeli satcom sytem and an Indian email address. It's far too complicated to get anything done effectively in relation to any sort of attempted fraud. When lads are arrested it is usually for something else they have been enticed to do which offends local sensibilities - not paying a driver, for example.

There's a lot of support for newbies in this forum!

Now that I've seen the error of my previous ways, my future lads will suffer more and more. By burning my scammers in the past, I gave them a reason to believe that their failure wasn't entirely their fault. Now, however, all of my scammers will have nobody but themselves to blame when they've spent months waiting for a payment that will never arrive.

Rule Number One is to always bait safe. Rule Number Two is that it's always the lad's fault, no matter what. Never again will a 419 scammer ever be able to blame me for his failure. They'll just have to wonder what they, not I, did wrong.

^^ that's the spirit!! when they drop you, they should be wondering what the fuck went wrong and have less idea about scamming that before they contacted you

Educating one or two lads out of the millions involved in scamming can hardly be considered a sin. However, it's like when a magician reveals how a trick is done. It loses all of the mystique and spoils it for the next act. Wink

When lads don't know what happened, we can keep track of them to warn others, gather more info to hurt them more with, and perhaps make their life a living hell on Earth. But that's just the good part.
The bad part about not letting on is that it may creep into their little subconscious, giving them horrible nightmares for the rest of their lives, and destroying a part of their hugely inflated egos, making them less effective and confident scammers. Oh, wait! That's good too! Very Happy

Your "victim character" could at times find out about his scam, if it will further the story as it goes along, but your RL baiter self never admits to him that he has lost his game. Wink
