Please post your favourite horror movies. Or recommend me some good ones. I dont really care about story or quality but it is a plus if its both there.

If you can stand movies with translated subtitles, I recommend the original Japanese versions of Ring and Ring 2.

If you are into torture porn - Hostel, The Human Centipede, and The Guinea-Pig Diaries should thrill you (not seen, not my thing - puke

- but heard good things from fans of the genre).

There was a thread about this on Digital Spy recently, I'll see if I can find it and post the link for you.

Edit: Forgot about 'Audition' - highly rated in most horror film discussions.

Pinhead movies are Hellraiser. They are very Clive Barkerish. Since you liked Silent Hill you might like the resident evil movies. Not bad especially considering they are based on a video game.

There is a few exorcism movies out. I don't think any are as good as The Exorcism . The one about Emily Rose was kind of dumb. I hear The Rite is decent. You may enjoy Legion. I recommend it.

I still love "Halloween."

I liked Candy Man, but it's pretty dated (back in the early 90s). I won't say his name in front of the mirror..

And I think the first few Elm Street movies were good (with Freddy).

From Hell was quite nice, all opium and murder.

Silent Hill gets my vote, it's unusually nightmarish. If you can find a proper copy of it, try Martyrs ... it's in French with subtitles, but is absolutley appaling in every way. Very hard work and unpleasant, and hard to forget.

Some horror with comedy in them

Feast - Gory as heck with blood everywhere, but funny characters, good script, good acting, and many surprises. Very different than most. Smile

Motel Hell - A B Movie cult classic. Rory Calhoun. Funny.

Dawn Of The Dead - Original movie is better, i think
Night Of The Living Dead - Original

Evil Dead II - Awesome plate breaking scene. Smile

Black Sheep - Killer mutant sheep, filmed in New Zealand.

My friend who likes Zombie movies more than any other horror genre highly recommends Black Snow.

I haven't seen it but I imagine the pitch went like this:

Film Exec: You've got 30 secs. Shoot!
Writer: Zombies
Film Exec: Meh.
Writer: Nazi Zombies.
Film Exec: Shocked

+1 for Audition. Try to watch in in Japanese with subtitles for that bit of extra atmosphere (it might be known to your local P2P platform as 'Oodishon'). Only movie I've ever seen half of the audience walk out within the first hour.

No +1 for SOOI's suggestion, as it can safely be assumed that anybody with a good taste in horror flicks has already seen this movie. Twice.

Not yet among the many excellent suggestions:

Event Horizon for a bit of claustrophobia.

Omen - the 1976 original with Gregory Peck, not the abysmally awful 2006 remake.

ETA: How could I forget to mention Lesbian Vampire Killers and Tucker & Dale vs Evil?

Eraserhead will melt your brain and befoul your soul.

I've been looking for an original (pre-cert) copy of Don't Go In The House. Looks promising for an old video nasty. Cannibal Holocaust is another classic bit of exploitative villainy.
