This is really sick and pretty low. But once they’ve hit a new low, be sure, that they can and will go lower.

I get a lot of these calls. I used to just tell them to go pound sand, but lately I have tried to waste some of their time. I'll ask how much the cops actually get from this effort, which dept., who is raising these funds?

I was mugged by fake police once. On Christmas Day, no less.

This was going on in my neck of the woods a couple years back. The bastards claimed to be collecting money for fallen fireman and policeman. They actualy called my father who happens to be retired fireman. I remembered it really pissed him off. Pure scumbags. Sadly I can see how a lot of folks could loose money this way.

I got a call from one of these guys years ago. I traced the number online, and found out that it was coming from the pay phone in the county jail building. One of the inmates was making these calls from inside the jail!
The nerve of that man. I called the sheriff at thej ail, and gave him the phone number, and time the call was made. They keep records of who uses the phone in the jail. I never hear back whether they nailed they guy, but it sure felt good ratting on his ass. Smile

I haven't received any such phone calls in a long time. When I did I told them I donate directly to the cause not to people calling me.

In Michigan we received many calls at dinner time.

When the called about water proofing my basement, I told them I had no basement. (Everyone has a basement in Michigan!)

When they called about siding our house, I told them I was happy with my brick house.

When they called about putting gutters on our garage, I told them I had no garage.

My husband said some day they will call about selling you shingles for a roof.

And they did!

I calmly told them I had no roof! And hanged up the phone.

Because LE totally raise funds by cold calling people. You know, in all of the free time LEOs have when there's absolutely nothing going on and no paperwork to handle. Not making fun of the victims or anything. I'm just surprised this scam has worked so many times.

Personally, I find solace in the fact that these scammers tend to operate from within America and can get caught as a result. Not like certain fraudsters that operate out of certain other countries *coughcoughcough*
