There comes a time in everyone's life when they start to recognize advancing age and impending mortality. I find myself ruminating on that fact today as I realize that this is my seventh Eaterversary. That's it: it's official now. I'm old.
Yes, seven years.... That's a lot of lad pain. Especially considering I'd been baiting for months before finding my way to Eater, and I was a lurker here before I finally joined. And I'm still slapping lads at every opportunity; there's a dolla chop brewing as we speak. 
What was life like way back in the dark ages of 7 years ago? Well, this was fresh news on CNN a few days before I joined:

Can you imagine? I was still on dial-up. The iPhone hadn't been invented yet. Facebook had only been online for 2 months. It would be fully two more years until the first Tweet in the entire world would go out ("just setting up my twttr" -- nice to know that it was just as inane as those being sent today). How on earth did we ever survive those difficult times? Oh yeah, by tormenting lads....
I checked the Eater logs this morning. When I signed up I was the 279th member to join. Over 40,000 more members have joined since then. Of the 278 people who preceded me, only 10 are still here, and only about half of those are really active (most notably including our hero, Rover.  )
It's a stupid cliché but it's true: time flies. And what a fun ride it's been! |

I can tell you from personal experience...the best part about getting old is that it beats the alternative!!
Is it just me or do more people join here in the Spring?! Seems like we've had a lot of Eaterversaries over the last couple of months! People in the cold climes looking for something to to get them through the winter? Time freed up coming out of the Holidays? |
